Hunting with a 30.06

I have 4 30/06s. an remingtom auto (I don't use anymore), two pre 64 M 70 Winchesters, and a browning A bolt with a 22 inch barrel.

I like the 180 grain rem core loc for moose and the 165 PSP for deer. I sight one each for these two loads. The 165 federal seems to be the most accurate but not by much.

I read somewhere that the 165 is the most accurate bullet weight for the 30/06

For deer stick with something simple Core Locks or win super X , Hornady Sp points, Thin skin and soft brass and lead are a good combo.

Lots of good advice mentioned.
Win fail safe was alway a good bet the made GXP 1,2,3&4 (may not be GXP GPX?) can't remember I used the #2 165s for deer in my A-Bolt 30-06 with good results expansion on rib shots but not a mess on the shoulder almost eat to the hole.
Since I have been reloading I have not looked at much factory ammo lately, I assume they still make this line?

Call Higginson powders in ont.
for the price of a few hundred rounds of factory ammo you can get the Lee Anniversary kit, it has absolutley everyhing you will need to load excellent ammo, (with dies), powder, and a huge pile of 180 grain bulk bullets.
Higginsons can ship you powder and usually has a good deal on a perfect powder for 30-06 size cases.
You can also contact BCREDNECK on here he is out in Chiliwack and he can get you geared up.
You really wont regret it. If you are new to shooting and really want to hunt the best thing to do is make it cheap on yourself to shoot lots.

Have taken numerous deer, elk and bears with a 30-06 everyone a bang flop and all with a 165grain bullet. Really like the Hornady light mags and the Speer Nitrex loads. Since have got into reloading and haven't bought any shells.

Thanks for all the great advice guys... I picked up some 180 Corelokts lastday and see how they do....and with some help and advice from Foxer I will hopefully be reloading some rounds sometime in the future....
