hunting with a .50 BMG

I beleive member ATR has posted photos.
Contrary to popular belief, it does not completely blow apart an animal.

ya 100$ for 10 rounds isn't cheap, wouldn't want to waste it blowing a huge hole in a deer.
Thats the type of round you hunt with if your a redneck, where everything you do is overkill.
The advantage of being able to shoot through a tree is one that is unnecessary.

As fun as it would be, Im pretty fat and would be worn right out if I had to walk 4km to put my tag on a moose... lol I could not imagine even attempting to hunt anything smaller than a moose with it. (but ground hogs would be fun)

You seem pretty opinionated. Is this based on any real evidence, or just recycled internet opinions?

My father and I happened upon a guy 10 years ago, in the P.G. area, shooting moose with his .50 from an elevated landing in a clearcut that was about 1.5km (maybe a little less) from a small swamp. He told us that he shoots a moose every year from that spot. He sits with his spotting scope, and a cup of coffee, with his rifle on a tripod, beside his fifth-wheel, watching the swamp. That's not my style, but I have no problem with it, as long as a clean kill is made.

First you ask if a 50 BMG is legal to hunt with, and then you say only rednecks would hunt with one ?
Having owned a 50 for a few years and hunted with it a few times, I have to say that this is a silly thread.... :kickInTheNuts:

No in Yukon, specifically prohibited.

So if you want to come up here, buy something in 20mm Vulcan, or use your PRTD and then you'd be okay...

Not sure where you get your info because I checked with Game Branch before I bought mine and was told as long as I used expanding bullets, there was nothing in the laws that forbid it.
Sean at Hougens did exactly the same thing before bringing in the one I bought and was told the same as I.

And yes I intend to hunt cariboo up the Dempster with mine and 647 gn Barnes TSX BT.
