Anyone of you fine folks out there have any experience hunting with the 6.5x300 WBY? If so what bullet? I picked one up in a Vanguard with 26" barrel and was considered using the 140 accubonds for hunting pretty much everything from moose to bear and coyotes. Thoughts!?!?

I've been carrying one since Weatherby introduced it. Killed a couple elk, a moose, antelope, hogs, deer, coyotes. Suffice to say I've put it through its paces. Initially I was using the factory load swift scirocco, good bullets but a little light for larger game. Since I got around to handloading for it I've been using the 142gr. Nosler long range accubonds. Very pleased with the results.

This past summer, my son received his Weatherby Mark V Deluxe (thanks to Clay from Prophet River) chambered for the 6.5-300 Weatherby. I don't know if you are reloading or purchasing factory ammunition, however after conducting alot of research in recent gun magazines and online, shooters are stating that the factory ammo loaded with the 127 gr. Barnes triple shock is the most accurate.....so far. My son purchased two boxes of that ammo to fire-form the brass and break-in the barrel. (the barrel was cleaned and scrubbed after every 3rd shot). My son said that it almost kicks as much as his 7mm STW....manageable recoil. Accuracy was between 1.75" to 1.00".
Load data is minimal, therefore we winged it with only one powder and bullet, Nosler 130 gr. Accubond and Hodgdon US869. We started at 88,89,90,91,92,92.5,93. All were great groups, 92 and 92.5 were the most accurate, measured at .450" and .600". We are going with these two powder loads along with different seating depths for our next range session. There was absolutely no signs of pressure. Once we finalize the load, then the crony will come out.

I would imagine the exit wound on a coyote would be epic. I had a 6mm/284 and that would tear em up real bad. Can't imagine what a 6.5/300 would be like with a Vmax.

Just an FYI, if your looking for somewhere to start with a hand load there is lots more data for the 6.5 stw that you can poach. That's what I initially worked up from.

Just curious. How come you don’t run your loads over chronograph as you’re working them up?

The 6.5-300 looks like a real interesting round. Would like to play with it.

It's what my signature statement states: "accuracy is final." Personally, there is no merit to crony any load development until the most accurate three shot group is tested. I love velocity and flat shooting cartridges, however the challenge of load development for ultimate accuracy is much more fun.

I'll be reloading as soon as I finish off the 2 box's of factory I bought for it I picked up some 140gr accubonds that I'm going to use over either retumbo or H1000 it'll be a project

Interesting track. I was just asking out of curiosity. I’ve always shot over the chronograph through thload development process. Thanks for the reply.
