Hunting with a LEE?

The venerable .303, whether it be an SMLE or a P14 platform is a formitable hunting caliber. I have had the pleasure of knocking over a few whitetails and more than a dozen moose over the last 40 years; most of them with a .303 of one configuration or other. The main difference between milsurp and sporter will usually be in the weight when carried, the milsurp will come in at about 9lbs where as the sporter will normally be trimmed down to about 7 lbs give or take. Once zero's for the ammo that it likes and in the hands of someone who knows how to shoot, they are lethal. The same goes, I suppose for most calibers but I like the .303 better than most.
Although the .303 has fallen out of favour over the last few years, the truth of the matter is that it is not that far off the .308 winchester in reality.
I personally use a 7.92 x57 mauser for moose now and the .308 for deer, but the .303 is just as an effective a cartridge and I have no problem using them anytime.

Here's a 4 point buck taken with my No5.

I carry my Isaphore No.1 Mk.III* in the bush for whitetails and mulies. I also have a M-112 Savage 30-06 for open country and long range stuff, but my 0.303 is my bush gun.

I also shoot Highpower (Vintage) with the same rifle so I'm most happy with it for both deliberate and rapid. I reckon that the rifle I'm most comfortable with is the one that produces the most accurate shooting in the field.

I'm now working on a Lithgow SMLE (full wood) but with a heavy barrel in 6.5/303 Epps. I'll see how it performs and if good accuracy out of it, I may just keep the Savage for the range.
