If it is crown land no permit should be necessary.
I pay $275 per year for full coverage, probably knock a $100 off if just liability.

Depends, my machine is ancient, so it's $225 for me.
The deal on use of ATV on trails for hunting is that it's ok to use the trail to access your traditional hunting/fishing spot. Generally they don't even ask during hunting season, if you have a gun case.

Damm, $65/year, nice! What's the value on your ATV (if it matters). I have a new Can-Am 1000 and I pay $380 through TD.

Depends on the bike and on the company you insure it with. I'm with Primmum and I pay 300$ a yr for a 2012 Kawasaki Bruteforce 750cc. Thats full coverage.
As far as permits go, as long as its crown land you're good to go. You can always go on the MNR website if your not sure whats crown, they have a interactive map and it tells you whats crown and whats private land. Kinda neat.

$6500 iirc it's an older honda, I just called the woman that does my car and truck, she said $65 for the year and I said "ok"

Coverage matters too. I have the minimum required by law, plus fire. I think the fire coverage added $25.
