Hunting with the 44mag. Rifle

Sorry no pics, my wife used hers to take a small doe a couple of seasons back, heart shot, 70 yards or so, we found a piece of the heart laying on the ground where she hit it. Deer ran about 50 feet. Impressive performance. 240 grain Hornady handloads.

My early years (when I did a lot of the camps "dogging") were with a Win. Model 92 rechambered to 44 Mag., a Marlin 1894 and with the original style Ruger autoloader.

All took game very satisfactorily.

If you fire it from a lever gun, the 44 mag is a ballistic twin to my favorite muzzle loader recipe using the exact same 240 grain hornady XTP bullet. I can tell you from first hand experience that it will put any deer down in no uncertain terms within 150 yards or so. They are very accurate and deadly bullets at around 1800fps.

Here in Alberta it has only been legal for big game for a few years. We used to have a "Minimum cartridge length" regulation.

Looks good on paper. I have always wanted a Ruger carbine in .44 mag.

Ya your right, being legal a short while, Got this one a month ago, Winchester Trapper in 44mag. what a gas to shoot.

I have whacked lots of deer with my ruger deerfield with American eagle 240 gr JHP bullets.
Sold it to a lady at work who has now shot 1 deer and 1 coyote with it.

Perfect for bush hunting

never shot a lever 44, how does the recoil go compared to the 375win or 30-30..?
theres just something good about a big hunk of lead gettin thrown out at a mild speed... seems to knock #### dead!
