So I took my K31 hunting for the first time today and left my normal .270win at home to sulk. The weather was -15 and a little breezy and snowing so I figured it was perfect for the swiss with its fancy muzzle cap. Never did get a good enough opportunity on a mule deer at the range I'm comfortable with (150 yards or less) but I did get the drop on a coyote! Found him at the bottom of a small coulee with his head in the snow foraging for mice. Technically it was about a five yard shot since I was shooting almost straight down. I was using a 150 grain SST and hit the spine. He looks good in the picture but the backside has a 8" exit hole.

I've gotta say its a pleasant rifle to carry. Fairly light weight and not overly long, shoulders quickly and lines up nice.

Thats my story so far.
I'd love to see pictures and hear the stories of other hunters happy with the K31

i love my k31 for reliability, accuracy and knock down power. but i find it a bit heavy to carry for miles upon miles, yet i still do. havent got any of my deer tags filled yet, starting to think i may as well go hunting without any rifle, be ligter to carry, and i dont get to shoot anyways. well, there is still some time left yet, guess i'll lug that ole k31 around some more.

Wicked. I don't often hunt with milsurps, but I have on occasion. Almost took a shot at a mule doe with my Mosin, but was not 100% comfortable with the shot (175 yards) so I let her walk.

I used my Long Branch No4 this year on whitetail deer and brought home a small doe a couple weekends ago. Was a perfect shot too, in one ear and out the other. I'll probably never have as clean a shot as that without a scope again.

I got my mid-sized white tail doe with an SKS with the Hornady SST loads. 25yard shot, so off-hand was good enough for a bang-flop neck shot. I was stunned at the energy dump of those SST rounds. Through the neck it was a fist sized exit wound, and it must have completely shorted out the spinal column, because there was no visible damage to the spinal column.

Already starting work on next year's rifle... Going with a Mosin M38 Scout Mount arrangement. At least that's the plan.
