Huot and Charlton rifles....

The interesting thing about this one is that it appears to have been manufactured in 1921

The Huot? I suppose that one could have been made up after the War. As far as I know, the ones made for testing were converted late in the War.

NavyShooter - A Huot would be an outstanding project, and a great use for one of the unwanted, unloved bubba'd Mk. III rifles.

I do think that the level of difficulty would be somewhat greater than a Charlton repro, though.

tiriaq is, of course, right as to the Charlton as well. The thing DOES have extra parts to make it full-auto and these well could be left out of a reproduction.

Considering the very short distance that the original cocking-piece would have to fall, and the fact that it would be lowered slowly by the primary cocking cam on the bolt, I really think that even if the Gummint shimmed the sear to keep it from holding the cocking-piece to the rear, the thing should close slowly enough that it would not be able to fire at all in this condition. This just MIGHT be one that they can't trick up on us, at least, not without designing, making and installing custom parts.

More likely, some bureaucrat would simply look at it and say that it's 'evil' and it would be Prohib some time in the distant future.... like about 15 minutes.

Problem with the law right now is that you don't need a law; just about anything can be done to us simply by regulation. WE can obey all the laws, but THEY have the power to change whatever they want, whenever they want. This is almost sounding like a WE/THEY situation, and that is NOT a good situation in a country which says that it is free and honours the rule of law.

Interesting historical point: lawyers were banned from running for or sitting in Parliament in 1382. The situation continued until 1705, when they sneaked back in as a part of the Act of Settlement.

Butt stock appears to be dated "8-7-21"

Did see some unusual things at the Pattern Room before they moved it.
No1Mk3 with anti-aircraft sight wings (like some Arisaka's)
Lewis gun with 800 rd drum.
But my best one was getting to hold an actual Nock volley gun. (heavy)

That Huot looks awfully 'finished' for it to be some basement inventor's pilot model. In fact. it looks to me to be pretty much a finished piece, something more like a series-production prototype.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned is time frame: just how late did work on the
Huot continue?
