I just picked a new rifle for myself a Husqvarna 1600 in 30-06 i have never owned a Husqvarna and was wondering what you guys think about them? I picked up for a real decent price, in the Stevens 200 price...bit more
How do they shoot? How are the triggers? Are they a Mauser action or something else??

Cheers!!

The Swedish Husqvarna Model 1600 series rifle was built around a redesigned Mauser type action. The bolts retain the military style full length claw type extractor and three locking lugs. These commercial rifles were manufactured from approx. 1953 to 1967. The 1600 series rifles show the same high quality of manufacture as Swedish Military Mausers. * To facilitate scope mounting, each rifle came from the factory with a turned down/swept back bolt handle, side mount safety, and drilled and tapped for Weaver bases. They are also drilled and tapped on the right rear of the receiver for peep sights and have an easy to operate button in the triggerguard for floorplate release.* All have beautiful wood with checkering where needed, nice bluing as noted, and all bores have been conservatively graded for wear of rifling and groove condition. Instead of tearing apart military rifle and spending lots of money to build a sporter, or buying a cheap XMart, plastic stocked hunting rifle, you can buy one of these high quality rifles for hunting, target practice, or as a collectible.

The one I have is also in 30-06 and is an excellent hunting rifle (accurate, reliable, etc.).

My wife's rifle is the light version of the 1600 Husky in .30/06. The 1600 was one of the first improved Mausers that did not split a locking lug to allow for the ejector, rather the bolt body is recessed, for the ejector, below the locking lug. My wife's rifle has very nice wood, but some 1600's look pretty plain. If it was me, and I intended to use the rifle in tough conditions, I would restock in synthetic, probably with a McMillan stock. The rifle has a nicely shaped bolt handle that allows for a low mounted scope. Accuracy in most bullet weights is good, but when I shot some heavy weight 240 gr Woodleighs I found that the factory 1:12 twist wasn't quite enough to stabilize them. Everything else shoots quite well, and 180 gr TSX's loaded to 2750 make MOA. I wasn't happy with the factory irons, so I had a Ruger front sight installed and a XS ghost ring with a post type front blade is in place when the scope is removed. The scope the rifle most often wears is a Leupold 1.75-6X mounted in Warn rings. I also replaced the factory swivels with QD studs.

I have a 1600 in 30/06 and I love the rifle. So far its been accurate. Mine is wearing a 4X Leupold and its a nice combo. I have a pic of mine in the above mentioned thread.
