Hi, I have an old (1957) Husqvarna 4100 that I took to the range the other day. When I fill the mag with ammo and cycle the bolt the bullets feed fine but when I manually feed the bullet into the chamber I can't seem to get the bolt to close all the way, all the time...any thoughts? Thanks!

I am pretty sure the 4100 was a controlled round feed(CRF) action, so, it was designed to pickup the bullet from the magazine by the bolt face and control the bullet being feed into the chamber. Putting a round in the chamber then trying to close the bolt means the bullet is not positioned correctly on the bolt face and therefore the bolt will not close. If it is a CRF as I remember you can actually damage the bolt by manually feeding rounds into the chamber then forcing the bolt to close. Just my 2 cents.

Mauser type rifles are meant to be loaded through the mag...it's actuall hard on them to just drop a round in and then close the bolt. The reason is b/c the big, mauser "claw" has to jump over the rim of the case...I'm guessing that 's the reason the bolt won't close. When a round comes up through the mag, it slips under the claw...that's the way it was designed.
