I was looking to install a new taller front sight on my husqvarna 46 and it looks like the sight is drifted straight in the base from the muzzle in ward. Has anyone removed one of these? Can it be drifted out and replaced. It looks similar to the sights below offered by NECG.

I've changed one because the rifle fell over right on the bead and it broke off. I've drifted it out with a brass punch from left to right. Have never seen them to be installed the way you described it.

I hadn't seen those ones. I have a Husky 9.3 x 57 as well with the same front sight. Can't remember what they were sighted in for back in the day- +3" @ 100m? As NEGC say, they have to be hand-fitted to the dovetail. What I've also considered is replacing the front ramp with one of NEGC's own and their adjustable front sight, since the rear sight is fixed and integral to the barrel. Lot more work, though.

Ya the rear sight can be drifted no problem. I just tried drifting the front out. Gave it a few good whacks with a brass punch and hammer. Didnt even budge lol.

Interesting, how about the rear sight can it be drifted for windage?

Yes, like BWEST's. Mine's a Model 46A c.1943. The rear sight is on a band that is integral to the barrel but the sight is dovetailed in (Just barely visible at right in the pic.)

It would be nice to get one of the jagdiopter or Hellqvist peep sights but they're in the same category as rocking-horse manure.

The 46A , that I have is a 1942 c , --- the rear sight is dovetailed into the base and has been drifted right to left , but not by me .

Ya my rear sight looks the same as yours. I just did some measurements the the front sight dimensions are almost identical to the NECG sight I referenced above. Maybe it needs a little heat before trying to drift out?

Maybe put some good penetrating oil on it and let it sit for a while before you apply heat. Also you can give it a bump the way it was seated (from muzzle inwards). Hope it will work out good for you.

Just an update. Gave it a little heat with a propane torch and and few good whacks with the brass hammer and it came right out! Thanks for the help. Ordered some replacements from NECG hopefully they fit.
