Picked up a Husqvarna 1600 in 8x57 a couple of months back and finally got some components to load some rounds. As I usually do when reloading; I created a dummy round to check how it chambers. As I rotated the bolt down on the round I experienced more resistance than expected. I figured I had a long piece of brass so I full length resized it and tried again, same experience when rotating the bolt down. Just to clarify, I don't have to hammer or grunt the bolt down, just noticeable resistance compared to my other Husqvarna and other rifles.

I used a candle to soot the dummy round and found the soot rubbed off right where the shoulder meets the body. This is a new situation to me and I'm wondering what I need to do if anything to address this.

p.s. I have not chambered a factory round and I have not fired this firearm.

Thanks in advance.

The gun has a tight chamber - just screw down your die a bit more for reloads. If you are using virgin brass, and it chambers with slight resistance, you should not consider that to be a problem.

You may have a "not used much" chamber (on the short end of standard) combined with a sizing die that is on the long end of standard. If you have an RCBS type press, and you already have it "camming over" (which you should be), you can do a quick and dirty check by sliding a feeler gauge - say .002" or .003" - under the brass case head when it is in the shell holder - try again with the soot trick. If that does improve, then you can choose to take a couple thousandths off the top of your shell holder, which will allow your set-up to shove that brass just a little bit further into the sizing die. Sometime you can slide up to .005" or .007" feeler gauge between case head and shell holder base - may or may not need that much adjustment...

It sounds like your used brass sizes down fine... it's good to feel the bolt close on a reload... a bit more sizing lube or the die down a hair more or both should change it...

How it chambers a factory round is your next step but I would not worry about it...
