So, recently bought a 30-30 Husqvarna.
The other day I cleaned it and went to fire it. Didn't want to chamber the shell.
But will with brand new unfired ones.
Also.... Pain. It looks like the extractor, a previous owner had slightly bent it in.😑
So now going to have to figure out how to carefully heat and slightly bend it back straight. 1000001134.jpg1000001136.jpg1000001137.jpgcarefully heat and slightly bend it back straight.

The old ammo was formed for the old chamber, dimensions were different than this rifle's. Full length sizing of the old brass might be enough, this rifle may need new brass to start with, keep the two separate for the two different rifles.

Yes, that's what I found, probably best to either reload with new brass or use factory ammo, fire it in the gun and use that.

I would remove material from the extractor to make it work like it should before I bent it. There is lots of material to reshape it. It very well could only need a few thou taken off it or a longer/steeper taper put on the end to jump over the rim. Mark it with a sharpie or dry erase and see what's actually happening.

As for the brass, full length size it or use virgin brass and keep it for this rifle.

Great idea! And yes, all it might take is just a bit of sanding to make it work.

Why do you think the previous owner bent the extractor?
I doubt anyone 'bent' the extractor. The factory made it that way to fully engage the rim. If it works with new brass and does not with fired brass, something is out of 'whack' with the fired brass... that's my guess. Now if someone can post a different picture of an original extractor... ?

If the "unable to chamber" means the rim of the case seems too thick... remove a couple of thou off the flat inside edge of the extractor and try it...

I have a couple of Swedish rifles and the extractors sure don't loook like that.
To me it looks that the previous owner tried to single load by putting the round in the chamber and rammed the bolt into it, bending the extractor.
These rifles should only be fed from the magazine allowing the extractor to slip into the rim.
And to make this problem worse is that .30.30 is a rimmed cartridge with a larger diameter than the original Swedish round (6.5x55) which is rimless.
If you ever come to Regina I can show you the bolts from my rifles.
Regards,
Herman

Hi herman,
This rifle is a single shot 30-30.

I would be very uncomfortable about trying to bend the extractor. Break it and you have a real problem.
OP, tiriaq and guntech are speaking from experience with such things.

I had a Husqvarna single shot rifle, the same model as the one in your pic. It had a tight chamber, worked well with factory loads, but reloads did the same thing mentioned by you in your post.

I liked that rifle but a young shooter took a shine to it, shot it well, so it was a gift for his 15th birthday.

It was also chambered for the 30-30Win.

There were two issues creating the problem but mostly it was the shoulder needing to be bumped back. The other issue came with some offshore manufactured ammo, having thicker rims.

The first fix was easy, just reset the sizing die a bit lower and bump back the shoulder on the cartridges.

Later, case length became a bit of an issue, especially with a build up of carbon on the leading edge of the case mouth section of the chamber. That's normal, and just required case trimming.

The rim thickness fix is also easy:

Remove the extractor, and STONE the inside edge until the rim fits under it.

DO NOT HEAT THE EXTRACTOR TO BEND IT

DO NOT BEND THE EXTRACTOR, just leave it as is and STONE THE SURFACE of the INSIDE FACE SQUARE.
