Husqvarna FN98 sporters

New too me. I have been seeing allot of them as of late and quite interested in one. I can't seem to find any information on the different models or production dates. Anyone familiar with them?

I am only interested in the rifles with the commercial 98 actions. I see them listed as FN98, does this denote they are of FN manufacture, or just a blueprinted FN action made by Husqvarna?

While browsing around I have noticed two variations. One with the military style trigger, trigger guard with recessed floor plate release button, and stripper clip guide. The other has a different trigger, different trigger guard profile with a protruding floor plate release button, no stripper clip guide, and plugged D&T holes on top, and on the side. Some are also D&T for a side mount.

Which would be the one to get in 8x57? Are they any good quality wise?

The Husqvarna commercial M98 actions are made by FN and are very high quality. There are several variations and Baribal knows them better than I do but basically there is a military style action with the thumb cutout and the full "c" inner collar and then several variations leading up to the full commercial style action with the "H" cut inner collar. I have both the early military style action and several of the later commercial style actions and they are all nicely made.

The rifles shoot well and being a good quality M98 function perfectly. For the price of them you can't go wrong.

How is the military style trigger compare to the commercial? Are they #### on close or open?

The military triggers are not as crisp as the commercial ones and generally have a heavier pull. All M98 actions #### on opening. The M96 HVA sporters are #### on closing unless they have been modified with a ####-on-opening kit.

The military trigger is a two-stage job which is actually not that bad and some guys quite like them. I swapped the two-stage out on my Husky M98 for a Bold from Brownell's just because I like to keep my triggers as similar as possible across all mu rifles. My brother's M98 Husky still has the two stage trigger and it would hunt just as nicely as anything else.

I love mine.

I would opt for the 30-06 verses the 8x57.
Unless you reload.
The 8x57 has a little more character in personality,
but the 30-06 is easier to find ammo for.

"...been seeing allot of them as of late..." Likely the daft people selling stuff they don't understand. Like jbmauser says, Husqvarna's are pretty high end quality wise.

The other Husqvarna I would highly recommend is the 1600 series rifles. These are a small ring, #### on opening Mauser style action. They have the third safety lug and the ejector is moved so there is no slot cut in the left locking lug. They were very nicely made by Husqvarna and are really a high quality Mauser action. I believe Tradeex has or had some in 8x57 listed at one point.

Most commercial Husky 98's don't come with a two-stage trigger. They had the 2nd stage bump filed/ground off (or perhaps they were made that way right right from the factory) so that the upper face of the trigger is flat, at a shallow angle. All of mine have quite good single stage trigger pulls - better than most from the factory these days.
