I'm looking at two older rifles in very good condition and I plan on picking one up..they are both the same price.
One is a husqvarna 1600 in 30-06 the other is a parker hale deluxe model in 30-06.
Is one a better choice than the other?
Any input is appreciated
thanks

What do they weigh?

My dad offered me a P-H 30-06 40 years ago and compared to my Remington Model 700 243 it felt like a ton of bricks so I didn't accept it.

A friend however has one, and whatever model it is, it's light and handy.

It's really a Chev or Ford question. which one fits your shoulder better?

I recently grabbed a PH 1100 lightweight in 6.5x55 and already have a few 1640/1600's.
The main differences between the 2 OEM is the PH has a fully adjustable trigger which can be set pretty sweet vs the 1640 which has a fairly lousy factory trigger. And the bolt handle is a little stubby on the PH vs the more comfortable longer handle on the 1600. Both are extremely smooth feeding actions.
The PH is a true '98 so parts are available as well as stocks should you require one. 1640 is tricky and expensive to find parts for if you need to.
Both have versions with nicer steel trigger guards and floorplates, and versions with cast aluminum alloy type that are rather cheap looking and feeling.
So.... pluses and minuses of each, but in a generic chambering like 30'06 the Deluxe PH might be the slightly nicer looking rifle compared to a plain 1640. Both are well made and will last several lifetimes if cared for.
PH 6.5x55

HVA 6.5x55

Depends on the P-H for me. Some of the stocks are gaudy and heavy like the 1200 Super and 1200C

My favourite P-H rifles are the 1100 Lightweight, and 1100 Deluxe which I have never been able to find on the EE or gun shows.

I prefer the plain look of most HVA rifles. I'm not one for beauty queen guns. Only complaint on Husqvarna rifles are that most of the imported guns have low combed stocks. Great for iron sights. Not so much for scopes.

The 1600 action is by far my favourite Mauser style action. Smoothest CRF bolt I have used. The M70 is a close second.

I have a P-H 1100 deluxe in .308 and she ´s a real beauty

I would likely pass on both and look for a used Husky .30-06 with a true, model 98, FN action. These are fairly common still and while plain, the actions are some of the best ever made and all have shot very well for me. Many companies sold rifles with FN barrelled actions, ranging from JC Penny to Browning, Sako, etc. My .30-06 Husky has the 23.6" barrel, decent open sights, and the two stage trigger is actually quite good. Finding a rifle with a stock comb suitable to a modern scope is the biggest challenge so I also have one mounted in a light weight McMillan. They are my favourite bolt rifles for hunting.

Of course a Husky 1600 carbine in 7x57 would be pretty nice too.

I would go with the HUSKY, They seem to be a nicer rifle, Ive had parker hales too and both have always shot well for me, But my votes goes to the HUSKY

Get an original FN 'deluxe' 30-06 of you can find one. This thing shoots like a laser!

(Does anyone one want to trade me out of that Vari-X IIc 3-9 that I have mounted on it? Not a fan of front heavy scopes. Vari-X IIc 2-7 or a Vari-X III 1.75-6x32 perhaps ;)

I have owned a PH in 7rem mag It shoots very well. the only downside of the PH is that they tend to really kick in any caliber bcause of the high comb.

Both are great rifles, I like Boyds stocks and you can't get a stock for the Small ring Huskys(you can fit into a 98), so I would probably get the PH, I prefer a stock with a high comb or a rollover as it helps me get a good cheek weld and that reduces felt recoil and helps me hold steady for standing shots.
