What say Ye? A HW 77 in .22, indoors target practice in the shop during winter and some varmit control on the orchard. Shots mostly around 30 yards or so..... A proper AO for the short ranges. I keep having the Hawke Sidewinder 4x16 keeps popping up.

I read reviews and just don’t think I can bring myself to do it for a Chi Scope that I have no firsthand experience with. I’d do a Nikon Monarch 3 as I have an old one that I gave to the kid that was a good unit but the site says parallex down to 30yds will that still suffice for a clear, crisp 6yd magpie shot thru the branches while they are raiding songbird nests....

Check out the various Hawke scopes at D&L Airguns. When I shot airguns, I used Hawke exclusively, including Sidewinders on PCP air rifles as well as the Varmint models on my springers. Hawke optics are airgun rated for the heavy two-way recoil of springers like the HW77. I had a Hawke Varmint 6-24 on the HW77K I used to have. The Varmint models have been replaced by the Vantage with side focus. They adjust to 10 or 15 yards. A 3-12 or 4-16 ought to do nicely. The Hawke Sidewinder is an excellent air rifle scope, but it is not inexpensive.

I have a Sidewinder from maybe 4 yrs ago. The large side wheel works for rangefinding for field-target type shooting out to maybe 60yd or so and allows fingertip parallax adjustments with my support hand. The glass isn't as good as an equivalently-priced Vortex or Leupold, but it does focus close which is nice for shooting in my basement.

In the Hawke Vantage line there are some less-expensive options, especially if you don't mind having the adjustment on the objective rather than on the side.

For what it's worth, Vortex scopes are also apparently springer-rated. A Crossfire II with AO might work.

Hawke appears to have two lines of Vantage scopes. The Vantage SF (side focus) include 3-12x44, 4-16x44, and 6-24x44 models. These are the ones with which I'm familiar and are similar to the Varmint line of SF scopes which they replaced.

Another chi scope thats well proven and I prefer to my Hawke scope is a Leapers UTG.
Leapers are even usually less expensive than Hawke with a good variety to choose from but are well proven as dependable. Check out D&L Airguns
