I just bought an HW45 .22 pellet gun...430fps. What's the largest pest I can take down humanely with this gun??

As a pest, probably a rat or squirrel. As for game, partridge (shot in the head) and rabbit.

The Hw45 is one fine pistol rated as one of the very best, if not THE best.

I ordered mine from D&L Airguns.

Delivered in 2 days.

Right now, it's new and is 'dieseling', the ample amounts of lube is actually igniting from the spring pressure...makes a loud 'bang'!!!

Very accurate gun though, at 5-7 yards (the length of my garage!) it can put pellets in the same hole.

Very nice choice :)

Did you chrony your gun or is 430 fps the number you pulled off a web page?

It seems that the newer hw's with the tru-glow sights hit a lot softer than the older models, you might want to chronograph it before you do any hunting/pesting with it. I wouldn't hunt anything larger than small birds with it.. maybe squirrel if you can pull off a headshot.

Beerdrinker - I didn't realize that this was the case - any idea how much slower their velocity is?

That will all depend on the pellet weight.................velocities will vary..............and the required breakin period when the deiseling stops..........Harold
