Hey guys, just been doing some reading on hydroforming brass with ex. Whidden hydro forming dies. Looking to re barrel over the winter and the wild cat 6BRX has my attention, I currently reload for 6BR already, so it would make best sense to stick with my current 6BR dies and set them 0.100” up. I suppose my questions to you guys would be :

- which of you guys are using a hydro forming die & what do you think?
- Are you guys ruining any brass during the process?
-Once hydro-formed I noticed Whidden says to size the brass down 0.010” ?
Which I don’t understand working the brass down that much.
- & lastly for you guys that are shooting a brx or bra is fire forming the brass going to be just as painless or painful. I have read they shoot amazing fire forming.

Thanks for your guys time.

I'm getting into PRS and my plan is to get a 6 BRA gun. I bought 6 BR Lapua brass from Neerlandia Coop and plan to fire form it. I was squadded in a match with a guy that was doing this same fire forming in the match as his competition rounds. But it's not the same as going 6br -> 6 brx, because I imagine that process has no way to headspace except off the extractor. Not sure if people do that.

Interesting to know adamg. I’m thinking the 6BRA would be a better option honestly for where I’m at right now, I guess a set of dies may need to be ordered!

Alberta tactical, c.o.w method sounds like it can be a pain in regards to cleaning it out of the barrel. But an upside of not burning up the barrel to fire form. Mind you rounds down range aren’t going to hurt anything other then the barrel lol

Maybe I opened a can of worms here lol 6br is sure looking easy, I wonder if I would be leaving anything on the table past 1000m.

Thanks for your guys replies!

C.O.W. is definitely an outdoors preferably windy day thing. Cleaning is not really an issue, some iso alcohol is all you need.

I do only hydro forming. For 6 Dasher. Currently using Hornady dies for it. Lose maybe 1 per hundred, but its seldom i do. Accuracy is excellent first time firing the hydro formed brass.
