(Hypothetical) ARMS 18 mounting incident...

Umm well ok...

The ARMS 18 comes with complete installation instructions for the mount, including a torque specification for the side mounting bolt.

Hypothetically speaking, if some jackass (not me) ignored the torque spec, (not having a torque wrench handy) and boldly gave the bolt a good pull with the gas plug wrench, there is a chance said bolt might break.

(In the unlikely even of this happening) where would you get a replacement mounting bolt for an ARMS18 mount? (I believe its a #12 bolt with 32 tpi.)

P and D told me they (hypothetically) had them for $25 each. I was hoping I could (risk some ridicule and) find something cheaper ...

I am theoretically sorry for your alleged loss, had it actually happened.

Gotta wonder if your local "nut and bolt" joint would have something useable, perhaps even in a nice black finish. Here in town, Edmonton Nut and Bolt has never let me down. Dunno what Winnipeg has like it, but I imagine there are a few places.

Anybody asks, tell 'em it's a custom tactical piece, way stronger than stock and half the weight. Lotsa cool operators using the "bolt mod"...

Let me know how you make out, I sent an email to ARMS and haven't got a response back (about two months ago). When I intalled mine, there was a burr in the poly threaded portion that stripped the threads on mine. I used the blue locktite and it has held reasonably well as there was just a little thread left.

Edmonton Nut & Bolt rules. But they did fail me once. But that's another thread. :p
 
The A.R.M.S. # 18 instructions specify 100 in-lb torque. Ted Brown (Shooters Den) and Ron Smith (Smith Enterprise) recommend 65 to 70 in-lb torque for the side mounted three point scope mounts, the A.R.M.S. # 18 mount included. HTH
 
Note to self ... stick with LaRue products from now on ive had nothing but problems with anything that ever had ARMS stamped on it and thier customer services is crap. I will only buy LaRue now.

Ps nice work Bryce, good to see suppliers that care.
 
I will not pass judgment, as I erred on the side of caution when I used a foot lb conversion to install the mount because I didn't have the inch pound wrench. Fabsports sells the bolt.

I now have an inch lb wrench and it is mounted properly.
 
Nut & Bolt Supply and A. Adams Supply had nothing. Wolverine came through. (Just don't ask about the cost of shipping.)

Hypothetically, if you were going to buy a torque wrench I'd recomend princess auto. They've got a sale of torque wrenches right now, 20-150ftlbs 3/4" for $25 or so.
 
Smith Enterprises says 55-65 inch-lbs for the side bolt. That's only 5 foot lbs, and would be measured too imprecisely with a foot-lb torque wrench in my opinion. If you don't want to buy a torque wrench, give me a call and bring the gun over, I can tighten it for you as I'm in Winnipeg.

Greetings, I did strip the bolt. And I was not trying to "weld" the mount in place or using grizzly force on it. The bolt that comes with seems to be quite soft.

I am looking for the specifications on the screw and will buy a good one from a hardware store.

+1000.

I am very happy with the two LaRue mounts I have (LT-649T and LT-110), and the only A.R.M.S. mount (#22) that I had felt like it's made out of pot metal, and didn't hold anything close to zero on re-attachment.

*sigh* Were we in US, Mark LaRue offers a free trade-in of any A.R.M.S. lever product for a compatible LaRue product. To me that tells something about his confidence in his product. But we're in Canada.....
