Hello,

I need some help please.

I have a brand new Colt LE6920 that I purchased on a wicked Boxing day deal and I haven't shot it yet!!!!! I've never shot an AR and the only rifle I've shot is a 10/22 so I'm eager beaver to use this bad boy! lol.

I can't determine what ammo to buy, way to many choices.

My budget is about $100. Could you fine folks share your wisdom and provide a recommendation for me please?

for what it's worth,

This is an option I've been leaning towards:

Federal AE 5.56×45 NATO XM855 Ammunition 150/CAN $84.99 plus shipping and tax.

I believe that stuff will not be good for some ranges. Won’t pass the magnet test, or so I was told at an indoor range. Could be a consideration.

Buy any brass cased ammo in 55gr FMJ that costs $0.50 or less, tax in. And don’t buy by the 100s! Buy by the 1000s! Ammo won’t go bad and 100rds will disappear in no time.

If you see AE, Federal, Remington, PMC case lots around $450/1000+ tax, it’s a good price!
Keep an eye on Tenda, a site sponsor. They have sales on .223 regularly and have excellent prices.

Doesn't hurt to have a look in the Ammunition section of the Equipment Exchange either, I have gotten a few good deals on .223/5.56 on there locally, you could find some in your area,,,worth a shot :)
Thread: case lots Ammo 9mm, 38 spl,, 223 and 22LR (Winnipeg pickup preferred)! currently being sold in your area by CGN member Bear.23
Sorry, don't know how to link to the thread properly, but it's Federal AE

I can't believe someone is agonizing over this. It's like sitting at a corner with an empty tank, having a nervous breakdown over whether to buy Esso, or Shell?

Go to your preferred supplier and buy what they have. Shoot the gun.

Ar plinking? Cabelas freedom bucket. Usually on sale every other Friday. 300 rounds/$119 bucks. That being said, if you're agonizing over what hundred round box to buy this may not be your sport.

This sort of waffling is usually reserved for those long range wankers. Those guys spend restless nights over whether to feed their bolt gun scenars or match kings or g1 vs g7 ballistic coefficients (totally not me hahaha)

This

XM855 is effectively military spec/green tip ammo. I bought a bunch because I wanted to keep the brass (Federal xm855 uses Lake city brass) but since it is mil spec, it is "green tip"... Which means it has a steel penetrator tip (and hence why it fails the magnet test). These are NOT armor penetrating, but they sure as hell penetrate more then cheaper 55 gr rounds. if I wasn't going to reload, I would have bought some cheaper 55 grain ammo.

Like already said, watch the EE here and / or buy in bulk to get the best prices.
Tenda has 1K of AE for $440 currently, and Cabelas (locally) had a couple sales over the last few months.
Just have to keep watching for any deals and then jump on 'em when they come up.

Leave it to A CGN member and a smart ass useless comment. Fortunately the majority of CGN members aren't as useless as you lol!

JESUS christ, who the F said I was agonizing? lol. I'm simply looking for advice. My god it's amazing it's like some people have never asked for help or a second opinion in their lives around here.

One thing people forget is that usually, the firearm itself is the cheap part, feeding the beast is the expensive part. If I don't have 2-3k rounds in each calibre I shoot I feel I'm almost out, so buy in 1000 round lots when you can find a deal.

You might consider budgeting for some Nomex 55gr the next time you post. If you are "drowning" in what, doubt?, with respect to a $100 ammo purchase, yes, you are agonizing over the decision.

Ok I'm agonizing but only because you said so, ok? you feel better about yourself now? lol.

Here's your winner folks!!

I bought 400rds of independence for $190 all in a little while ago, got in on a group buy with some friends. I don’t even have anything to shoot it out of right now, but it was cheap so why not. Maybe late March I’ll find something to put it through.

Still don't understand why yall ditch steel cased stuff.

I'm not saying to go and get tula, this stuff is borderline dangerous, but I've had great results with barnaul and norinco stuff. Plus the melting in the chamber thing as been debunked so really, if you're not reloading I don't see the point...

Agreed. I run the Barnaul all the time, and it's never caused me a problem. Cheap is good when it comes to training/practice ammo, as the cheaper it is, the more training/practice you can afford to do.
