My father has recently developed a problem with his shooting shoulder and wants me to build him some lighter 338 Win Mag bullets. He has 200 grain factory loads that does not like to use and 210's that he refuses to use.

I was thinking about some bullets in the 160gr-180gr range. Anybody know if those exist?

180gr Nosler Accubonds. Load up a medium charge for around 2800-2900 fps and you should be good to go. You could also look for lightweight Barnes TSX bullets and load accordingly.

If you don't reload, you may be SOL for anything lighter than a 200gr.

I'd grab some H4895 and some 160gr TTSX or 180gr Accubonds. Use the starting load from www.hodgdon.com and it will be a relatively mild recoiling load. A smaller cartridge like a 270 may be the answer though

If it's just deer he's hunting there's Nosler ballistic tips in 180gr that can be loaded down to 2700-2800fps.I'd get a milder gun sometime soon if it were me............Harold

I have noticed with .338 WM's that the stock is really important when it comes to recoil.

I had a Ruger 77 that took the fillings out of my mouth.

I now have a Sako that has a percieved recoil that is quite similar from Nosler 180's and 200's, I do notice a slight difference in the 250's
