I was dry firing my Redhawk yesterday and something broke. I've figured out that it was the "hammer link" that broke, Ruger part # KHO 6900, and I've ordered a replacement from Ruger's Canadian parts depot in Quebec. I'm not that mechanically gifted and I haven't disassembled my revolver yet (it's still fairly new to me). Is replacing this part fairly straightforward? My gun is still covered under warranty, but the last time I had to send a firearm off for repairs it turned out to be a 3 month wait, and I’m not that patient anymore. Anyone have any experience with these revolvers?

Thanks - Scott

dig out your owner's manual- page 34 shows it's relation to the hammer, and page 33 shows how it goes in- it LOOKS like take off the grips, take out the hammer pin(kh01600) take out the hammer, take out the pin in the hammer, replace the part, then put the hook under the ladder , and put the hammer pin back in- the shipping will be 50 bucks

Thanks for the replies everyone. It looks like it would be fairly straightforward to replace, I just need to learn how to disassemble the gun. The instructions in the manual seem pretty easy to follow, it's just a matter of doing it for the first time. The part only cost $3.00, so hopefully this isn't going to turn out to be a pain in the A$$. I'm reluctant to send the gun away for repair if it's something I could do myself, or for that matter have a local gunsmith do for me.

Ruger's warrantee is unwritten. Ruger revolvers are really simple compared to some. No special tools are required like there is for a Smith. Only take out what you need to(no need to take out the trigger group for example) and use the right size screwdriver.
There's a better exploded drawing here. http://stevespages.com/ipb-ruger-redhawk.html
And an on-line .pdf manual on his other page here. Pdf's can be made bigger than the manual. http://stevespages.com/pdf/ruger_redhawk.pdf

Arrange to take it to a gunsmith with the provision you wish to watch and learn how to disassemble your handgun... it will be cheaper than sending it away and you will learn as well....
