So I have this Receiver that I got a while back in a box of parts. It needed a stock, trigger guard, and a firing pin and of course a barrel. At first glance it looks to be a Cooey 84 / Winchester 840 but it has no markings. I put a Cooey stock, trigger guard, and firing pin on it with no problems but Cooey 12ga barrels won't fit. I have tried three and none will close up all the way.

Anyone recognise the decorative design? Could it be maybe a smaller gauge like 20ga or .410?



 
Trigger and hammer like a 840 Cooey, if go with that. But it's defiantly a Cooey.
Model 84 Cooeys had the hammer that turned down not up, and the triggers were rounded more, not straight like that one.
Some of them that I have seen were case hardened and had thicker for stocks. Defiantly the serial number is printed in a fashion of the 840s . Don't remember my 84s having a letter in front of the numbers, but if it doesn't say Cooey on it, maybe some of the sears or other spinoff guns did.
The actions were specifically fitted for a matched barrel. I have many Cooey 84s and hardly any of them fit each other's barrels to actions. I tried for fun one time.
Each major part, rear stock, receiver and barrel were fitted with matching serial numbers.
As for the engraving, IMHO that's so robes handy work after it come from the manufacturer.

Winchester Model 37 is my best guess. I have a 37 in 12Ga and the hammer, trigger guard, trigger, lever and hammer spur are identical. Ser # starts C997###. Engraving is a little different though, mine has a rhino engraved on it for some strange reason...
 
Thanks BernDawg, a Winchester 37A is what it looks to be. Several pictures on Google with the same design on the receiver, most of them seem to be in 20ga.
