Just thought I'd mention it in case someone from the Hunting BC board comes here and knows someone missing a dog like this. I'd post this there myself, but I had account problems and asked to be white listed for now, so feel free to cross post this.

Just outside Lake Cowichan as you are heading to Duncan, first side road where the first red gate is (the place with the 870 acre land for sale sign).

Looked like some sort of walker hound, tri coloured (Beagle like colours), hound ears, and eyes, approx 70lbs.

Looked well fed, nails trimmed etc, no collar or ID tags.
I didn't have gloves so I didn't inspect for an ear tattoo or microchip, and I didn't check to see what ### it was.

Looked like it was hit buy a vehicle and was left or moved to that spot.
I believe it happened Sat night or Sunday morning, given the fact that I didn't see it before then.

If this is your dog please scoop it up, and bury it before more folks have to drive by it this weekend. And or before things warm up and we have to see a dog decompose for months. It's prob' too far off the hwy for the hwy department to pick it up.

Shame really, and a sucky time of year to loose a great looking dog like that.
:(

It's possible, as I didn't examine it too close, but there was allot of unruptured guts hanging out the other side...more akin to blunt force by a vehicle then to a messy firearm wound.

And even then it is pretty irresponsible, and disrespectful to leave such a thing at the side of the road just outside town on a Major Hwy.

Also there are plenty of folks that would take in a non hunting hound as a couch warmer. In any event, it's gone from the side of the road now.

There are some people out there who do not believe that dogs, cats, (Read animal of your choice) are humans. A working dog is just that, a working dog. A milk cow is a milk cow. Would you keep a cow that did not produce for you? I love dogs, not so much cats, but I love dogs. I do not allow them to sleep in my bed nor do I allow them to be on the furnature in the living room. That does not mean I am not kind or loving to them? The statement about the cull was perfectly correct. If the dog was not doing it's job then it was a waste of rations. Perhaps it would have made a perfect couch warmer for someone but, to suggest that the author of the statement was cruel...thats quite a stretch! Perhaps the owner of the beast knew that this partictular animal was "Good for nothing" and took matters into his owns hands, or maybe, as suggested at first, the poor thing was hit by a car, either way, it should not have been left in plain sight by the road.

It was probably hit by a car being found so close t a road but working dog owners have been known to dispatch dogs. Only they know the history of the animal. If it was raised as a hardcore cat hound, it very like was trained using ferile house cats and would not likely take well to a doggy sweater and couch in the city.

i own hounds, my hounds live indoors:D they dont have free range of the house but its better than living outside pissing off the neighbours, i live in the City
