I gave the 590 a workout today.

So, I tried out trap today for the very first time. I know, the 590 20" persuader is not optimal, but the very nice club organizer told me "just bring what 'ya got". So, after the rules were explained, I watched round one from the sidelines. Then, I dove right in. My first round was only 9 hits out of 25. Round two, I hit double digits with 11 out of 25. And round three, I hit 10 out of 25. Lots of tips and pointers between rounds helped me too. So, 30 hits in 75 rounds, and a sore right arm and shoulder. But boy, did I ever have fun!

I'm going to try it again. And may even look into a trap gun. If you haven't tried it, you should. Great people ...fun times!

6MT - funny but I had the same experience yesterday. I'd never shot trap but did so at a friend's property. I'd never shot at a moving target. It was very challenging but very rewarding to see those clays break up in mid-air. It's an awesome sport. I also used my 590a1 but found a semi-auto worked better for me. The Fabarm XLR was incredibly accurate. I can't wait to try this again!

Not to hijack your thread, but if anyone can recommend a good spring device that throws clays I would appreciate it.

Shooting Clays is fun for sure. I even shot them with my SBS's. I prefer to hit steel thou.

Won't be long till the round count is high through the Mossy. Best thing you can do IMO. Will slick the action right up.

Which is exactly why short barreled black and green shotguns are a very poor choice for shooting trap ,skeet, or sporting clays. With a more suitable gun, you will break more targets, and your arm and shoulder won't be sore when you are done shooting. And when trap seems easy, try skeet, when that seems easy, try sporting clays.

I agree. I tried trap for the first time this year and I'm hooked. It is great fun. My best so far is 23 out of 25. But I'm usually 16 to 19 range. Even went out and bought a Browning Silver Hunter for shooting! A year ago if you would have told me that a shotgun would be the mist used gun in my safe I would have said your crazy. But now it is.

6MT is right, give this a try.

Shooting the back 40 with a clays thrower is clay target shooting yes but should not be confused with trap. Entirely different clays game. But they are all fun.
