I was one of the lucky ones who got a CSA carbine last week. (I also had my name on the wait list since the absolute beginning - about 3 and 1/2 months). About a month ago I decided that I would give it to my girlfriend as a Christmas present. It is cheap to shoot (cheaper than virtually any other centrefire rifle, even with reloading... which we do), low recoil, easy to shoot and fun. We've had it out shooting twice now. It is really cool gun. The finish on these is the most striking thing about them compared to the CZ guns. Look at the difference in the mags in the first picture. It is hard to tell in some of the pics, but that is the difference throughout the whole gun. One is a kind of glossy blue. The other is a flat, matte black, parkerized-type thing. I'm uploading some vids right now, and "Nemo" also took at least one vid of it on Thursday which he has up on his channel (I'll post the links shortly). I thought you guys might enjoy a few more pics:

Comparison with my 858-4v which has been converted to a "woody". Notice that, with the muzzle break, the OAL is not much different:

With a stable of evil black rifles (L to R: CMMG 14.5" milspec "M4"; "Woody" CZ858-4v; CSA 11.5" carbine; Swiss Arms 14.3" carbine). Notice that they are all very similar in overall length/size:

Comparison with the Swiss Arms folding stock:

With a bone-stock 18.5" Remington 870:

With the Remy, also also a K98k and a Steyr SSG69:

Another satisfied shooter!

I must admit, it seems more of a self-indulged purchase rather than a "gift". Or if it truly was a gift, possibly not one she really wanted...

Does she have her R-pal...?

Don't take this as a personal attack, it's just the opinion I formed... Which could very well be wrong...

Trust me...
ghostie's wife spew's more lead down range than most people on here plus with the groupings she can get would scare most guy's into buying what ever she want's.

Yah, what he said... she shoots. This is for her. I have enough of my own stuff, including that 858 in the pics. I just tried it out a couple times to see what it is like. She has had her RPAL and LTATT for years. She owns two handguns, and has owned other handguns and rifles in the past. Truth be told, the one she really likes is the Swiss Arms CQB. I have the Swiss Arms Carbine, which she can borrow whenever she likes, but I guess it is different when it is your own - a sentiment we all understand on this board.

A $1,000 rifle (plus tax and shipping, etc. was something like $1,136) is a pretty substantial gift for me at this point (35 years old), but a $3,500 rifle, that is a bit out of my budget for gifts right now. Even the Swiss Arms that I have, I didn't really pay for it in a direct sense (it was given to me by a guy who was in a jam who I did a bunch of work for).

In any event, she likes it. Originally I think she wanted a STI Ranger II in 9mm, but I got her this because she liked my 858 and I know she wanted a rifle, but one that didn't have too much recoil and was cheap to shoot... and also "looks cool", which is a big factor for her (and, let's face it, the rest of us as well :D). I did have to register it to myself in order to get any kind of surprise factor for Christmas... but I'll get it transfered to her soon enough.

By the way... this rifle shot about 6" low and 4" to the right at 25 yards out of the box (point of impact would be down around where the lower right staple hole is on this page). I think that is the muzzle break at work. But in any event, we used the SKS sight adjustment tool to sight it in for 25 yards. I shot this group off-hand at 25 yards the way it is sighted in now. It might need to be dialed in a bit more, but it is pretty good as is. It should print a bit better than this off a proper bench set-up. I'd probably rather sight this is a little further way (50 or 75 maybe), but this is o.k. for now.

Also very interested in the wood.

There was a guy on using the handle "Obiwanbonjovi" from Michigan who was selling them on the EE. Is he not around anymore? There are numerous people in the U.S. selling the wood, and a number of wood sets have made it to Canada as well. Check the EE. Somebody on here will have some information as well.

Great collection, I gotta tell ya I love that K98k.

I have a few threads in the milsurp section dealing with that rifle. I think all the pics are in this one:
