Due to an increasing back and spine problem my wife encouraged me to purchase a new, lighter, gun for hunting this year. Yes she is amazing. After doing some research and picking the brain of some people that I respect when it comes to hunting and shooting equipment (thanks Brambles) I finally decided to go with the Tikka T3 Lite. It was the lightest, best reviewed, gun in my price range. I purchased it in 30-06 as this calibre has proven to be more than effective for what I hunt. When I picked it up I took the 3 - 9 scope from my Ruger to use until I could purchase new glass for the Tika. I put two boxes of shells through it without trying to sight it in precisely, my main objective was to break in the barrel a bit. I finally purchase a new scope last week. I went with the Nikon Buckmaster 3-9 X 40 with the BDC reticle. I mounted it when I got home and finally took it to the range. This close to hunting season I wanted to get it sighted in of course and went in the evening when there ended up being no one else at the range.
I set up a target at 25 yards and eyesighted boresighted the scope. Four shots later (twice I adjusted the wrong way) I started shooting at 100 yards. After the first shot hit the target and I new that I was close I concentrated and aimed the next two as best as I could. It looked like I had missed the target with the third shot and I had to run down to 100 to see if it was even on the paper. It was, it was touching the second shot. Hmm, that had to be lucky I thought, because I had never shot a super tight group before. http://www.flickr.com/photos/46280762@N07/4926906438/in/set-72157624681013685/
I went back to the bench, adjusted the windage/elevation and shot three at the next target http://www.flickr.com/photos/46280762@N07/4926310897/in/set-72157624681013685/ . From the bench I could tell that they looked close together and made another small adjustment and fired three more shots http://www.flickr.com/photos/46280762@N07/4926906110/in/set-72157624681013685/ .
As you can probably tell I was very happy.
If the photo links don't work when I post I will post them again.
