I guess the Ban just killed this sport...

For decades Service Rifle did not require an autoloading rifle. The Rangers compete without one.
The only modification to the course of fire might add a few seconds to the Rapid Fire matches.
If you are serious about competing, there are options.
If a service pattern autoloader is desired, how about an M-1, or a SVT? Biggest downside to an M-1 is the sighting system, compared with a rifle with an optic.
Later this summer, on July 4th, we will be hosting an event, New Service Rifle Trials.
The AR has proven itself to be just about the ideal rifle for SR competition. Strange that some non-shooters determined that it had no legitimate purpose.

Stay tuned.... I’m working on a Course of Fire... I was mentored/trained/developed by the best in this country. Just spending lots and lots of positive energy / time/effort/ mindfulness on this CoF right now.

Sometimes the way forward looks daunting, but I prefer to seek the challenges and adversity. Yeah, it’s tough and potentially depressing, but what hardship isn’t?

Bruce Lee said, “Don’t count what you don’t have. Count what you do have.”

I will leave this here! Hahahahaha

Adversity Into Advantage!!

Option #1: Don't give up(so easy).

Yup. Never every give up. I'll keep going to matches even if I have to use my sling shot. The good thing with all the B.S. that's going on most matches are canceled any way so now I give that money to groups fighting the lunacy that's going on to my beloved sport. So maybe a win, I dont know yet time will tell.

That is the point - keep going to matches, stay involved and active. Ranges are reopening, and shoots can be held subject to the covid precautions.

I will still go to matches and have some level of involvement no matter the ban of today or nonsense of tomorrow. Nice to hear others chime in with the same attitude. If I go back to shooting a No.4 it means I just have to budget more for ammo hahaha

It was a good excuse to buy a .223 bolt gun and get back out shooting. This could be tied up in the courts for years and win or loose I am going to keep shooting. Once the Vancouver Island ranges open we will be booking matches and practices. Of course soldiers and police will not be able to train and compete on the same platform on their own.......

So that we could keep the timings the same we just let folk using bolt actions to remain in the prone position prior to the appearance of the targets for the rapids.

I'm hoping for a reversal of the OIC, but just in case, I just bought a Ruger American Ranch in 5.56 using AR mags. I can still use my existing AR mags and tac vest set up. With minor changes to the COF, we should still be able to do SR and CQC. I just hope that all competition directors get on the same page as far as the COF is concerned.

Match programs are going to be developed. Availability of the DND ranges used for SR and CQB matches could be an issue, because of covid closures.
Many club ranges can handle CQB. SR, going back several hundred meters, not as many facilities.

Here is a R700 in an LSS chassis with sporter weight .223 1-9 twist barrel.

We will be trying out few variations of courses of fire here on the Island. I don't think there is the need to be identical every where. Traveling to a bunch of countries showed me variation is good and you can shoot or you can't. If I had trenches I would have guys shooting from trenches. I have a range we can't do run downs on so we don't, we shoot movers. Adapt and overcome. I like the classic 12 but the CAFSAC matches are also a blast and a challenge.

Why are we talking about bolt guns when there is a reasonable range of choices in semi auto? People were shooting WK180 at ORA before the OIC.

SR can definitely continue with semi auto - WK180 and WS MCR are reasonable priced rifles. There are also Bushmaster ACR and many many X95/TAVOR in circulation, as well as FN FNAR. HK SL8 is not exactly rare in Canada either. There also a few semi like K&M, KelTech RBD, robarm M96, FN 2000.....

I know people are sad their match grade ARs ( or thumb up their noses at anything not AR or upgradable to match grade) are no go at least for now before the legal actions are concluded, but I do not think it is the right move to uphold the tradition of practicing/training what the "militia" do for marksmanship, nor does it contribute to the argument to the court and government that semi auto is necessary for sporting. We will be falling into the reverse of the fallacy the OIC committed, by that these rifles have no sporting and hunting use, and in the next paragraph acknowledging the natives do use these rifle for hunting.

We need to talk the talk, and then walk the walk when it comes to using semi auto in SVC. We have two legals actions with both SVC shooters from the BC and ON as both applicants and makers of affidavit - it is not productive to do the opposite while they argue for us that AR15 and semi auto are essential to conduct SVC. We should stick with what we are doing with semi auto until 2 years from now if they actually confiscate our AR15s.

My opinion is that the Rifle associations and the match directors should not break rank with the legal actions. We must not act like we are defeated before we are defeated either, this is the start of the break down of the cohesion of us as a group. We must have a united front. SVC is to be conducted with semi auto because semi auto is essential to SVC. This is the sporting purpose of semi.

You are right about other options being available but I’m personally out 8k in unusable rifles and I’m sure I’m in the low numbers. So people might be a bit reluctant to go out and buy a new semi-auto 223/556 rifle right now.

CQB matches in Valcatier brought 60 people per match and 3guns had even more per match. On a CQB match day you would see the following rifles being used:

-one tavor
-one T97
-one VZ58, maybe two
-one or two SKS
-saw one Wk180 last year.

The rest was all ARs because its highly customizable but mainly because of the price tag. Hard to beat the 499$ CQAs. If we could run matches right now, I doubt we’d get more than 20 people and most shooters would show up with SKS.

I’m talking with the MD in Qc City and it looks like if we manage to run matches this year in QC, it will be Pistol only Match. No need to adjust CoF: stay within 25m and keep the 5 magazines//5 rounds load out to keep it somewhat dynamic.

Are there any Service Rifle matches scheduled anywhere this summer?
CQB? DND range availability? CQB could be fired on many civ. ranges, all shooting is well under 100. Anything scheduled?
