Hi,

I have alot of brass and want to start reloading my own.

I just have a few questions and will most likely have more to follow later.

How do I take out the used primer? Punch?
How do I clean the Brass? and how well sould the inside be cleaned?

Would the next steps be to:

Size the brass
Prime
Powder
Bullet

Brass I have is 30-06, 303, 223 and 22 Hornet.

To remove the primer you should get a press. I recommend a single stage RCBS or Lee Classic. Then you need either a universal deprimer or a die set for each caliber you are planning to reload.

To clean the brass a vibrating cleaner or tumble cleaner is needed.

But from my experience what you need to find first is a local reloader who can guide you through your first sessions. It will make the job much more enjoyable and you will learn enough to be able to work on your own.

Welcome to the next step.

Trevor

Get one or more reloading manuals. They all offer an illustrated step-by-step description of the process with appropriate warnings or caveats. Reloading is a safe, economical and enjoyable hobby-provided that you do it right.

How long is a piece of string?

To the OP, buy a couple reloading manuals and get reading. Once you've gone cover to cover on those twice, come back here and ask a bunch of questions. There's a lot to be covered and you'll need manuals anyway, they explain the entire process quite well. Reloading is rocket science, literally, you are burning a propellant at very high pressures, right next to your face, to launch a projectile. It can be as safe as any other aspect of shooting, if you take the time to learn what you are doing, how to do it, and why you are doing it.

You'll likely invest at least 20-30 hours reading before you even bother setting up a press. It's pointless to load up a bunch of ammo if you don't know what's going on. I could tell you in one paragraph all that you need to do to reload, but it'd leave you more confused than before I started.

I'll be the first to admit I don't fill in the blanks as much as I used too..

I always say Reloading in like baking a cake.. get the recipe right it works great.. get it wrong it will fall flat..
want something different change the recipe a little...
Want something snazzy go for it...

Always use the best ingredients for the best results.. But don't ice the cake until the cake itself is good..

Before you go any further, buy a Lyman's reloading manual and read through it. An hour or two reading will start you out with a basic idea of how to reload and what equipment you need. Then, when you have some idea what it's all about, come and ask for help on anything you are still unsure of.

300K eh ... you shooting that much in one day or you have a couple thou in every caliber made??? I mean isn't that a little past the shooting capacity of 1 shooter???

What's the one day bit... When I have time to reload, I reload.. when I compete, I compete a lot.. I can shoot 70K rounds in a summer...

Shooting pistol may not be exactly like shooting rifle in PPC using 1200 rounds in a weekend is not excessive.. Go to a match and practice before hand you can blow 3000 rounds in that week..

I have in the past gone thru 70K rounds in a year...

I'm a bit of a pack rat.. and as such if I find brass at a good price I grab it..

I don't suppose you have about 1000 .45 ACP primers, bullets and casings I could buy off you do you? :) A friend has offered to show me on his press how to do it if I buy the components. Trying to get all these from one place is proving difficult.

There's no need to explain yourself to those with "brass inadequacies"....;)
