I have a die here and am unsure of the calibre...the die is for a straight walled casing and measures 0.5785 ID. inside and a length of 1.7420 in length internally to the bottom of the threads.

Anyone have any idea what this die is for?

I am guessing that it is for 50-70 or some similar cartridge but I don't know what stage it would be...maybe expander? There was a 44 mag decapper screwed into the top...it appears to be a thread gauge of 0.55(0.5490)in X 18tpi.

Anyone?

Interesting??? Every die should have marked the cal on the die. Are there any letters or word mark on the die? If you found anything, you can email RCB for more informations

It says "RCBS ® 44 MAG." on the decapper

It originally was bought in a set at a garage sale...and the sizer had no decapper...instead the decapper was in this strange die.

Still wondering if this decapper was suppose to be acting as the expander for the throat also, as it does have a flange to it. Width of the lower part of the decapper shaft is 0.425in...upper part of the shaft above the flange is 0.470in...the progression from 0.425 to 0.470 is done in 0.130in along the vertical...so a 19 degree angle.

The distance from the tip of the decapping pin to the beginning of the flange is 1.550in ...all in all this looks more like a decapper/expander.

Am I correct in assuming this?

I would still like to sell this as a 44 mag reload set in the EE rather than in pieces.

Peckerwood,

I understand this is stamped on the decapping stem itself, and not on the die body, correct?

If so, it must not be an expander decapper, because while 0.425" sounds about right for the start of an expander decapper, 0.470 is far too large for a 44 mag which uses .429-431" bullets.

Is it possible for you to post a picture of the die, perhaps disassembled so we can see all the component parts?

Wonder if it's maybe a custom die of some sort. That might explain the lack of markings. Maybe a 475 Linebaugh, or some weird-ass wildcat

I have a digital camera here but the recharger is missing a piece so I can't take any pics with it...battery has been dead for about three weeks.

Confusing to say the least though
