soooooooo does any one have some plans to blast off something about the size of a golf ball?...
then maybe next project a base ball:)

then maybe a basket ball:) ... i know im getting ahead of myself here:redface: but like im like a kid with a new gun:eek:

so any one some links or tips on my urges... they will be well appreciated

Cannons are fun! I now have two of them. I'm sorry that neither are around here right now, so dimensions aren't availabe at the moment. Will get this info this weekend. Anyways one thing I remember is that one is 1/4" thick seamless pipe with a plug welded and pressure tested. Offhand, bore is about 'd' cell battery and is approximately 18-20" long. They do kick back though. The other was made at work with a UHSS reinforcement from an automobile. It is a little larger bore, but not thick walled. It works, but has yet to still prove itself. If using seamed pipe, layer it at least twice, three times is better, but always stagger your welds. A friends is built this way, and is rather large as we shoot 1/2-1 lb of powder a shot. I will also post a link to go to as the site has a cannon forum, and there is a wealth of knowledge there as well. http://www.muzzleloadingforum.com/fusionbb/fusionbb.php?

Hope this helps a little.

Just a suggestion - you might want to consider a mortar. Much shorter range, the projectile can be observed in flight, uses less powder, easier to make (less maching to be done because barrel is so short). One that I made years ago had a 200 yd range, shooting tomato paste sized cans. Projectile would be in the air about 8 seconds. Used less than 100gr powder per shot. A pengun flare could be embedded in the projectile....

Ah yes... the mortar. JUST what you need to rid yourself of pesky neighbours... well... all neighbours, as a matter of fact.

The tomatoe cans work to greater effect when they are substituted for dutch ovens welded shut and filled with black powder and ball bearings

wow all:) thanks for all the links and input here...for the first attempt at making one..i do not want to get to fancy...i just want to cap off a pipe and go from there...once i learn to understand the operation of one:redface: and learn how to operate one...
i will try and make up one that looks like the real thing:) ..
so any tips out there ,to make with a seamless pipe...what size of pipe? and what sch?? and how to cap off...and what to use for trunions?.. i should add in here i want to make out of stainless pipe
is there ever a blast off of cannons within a few hours drive of toronto?i would love to check one out:)
cheers all

i saw a few in the sirs catalog... opinion,s on them all?

I'll have to get a sears catalog and check them out.
If you know a machinist and he can turn the barrel, could you make the carriage. ?
My son nessy1022 made a barrel when he was in high school, and mooncoon finished it and made the carriage. We don't have any woodworking tools, hence it sat incomplete until mooncoon took it on.
I'll post a pic of it tromorrow.
Nessy1022 is person on the far left in the top pic.
The cannon in the bottom pic, I traded to Steppenwolf, maybe you've got something he needs ;)
Did you check out dub dub dub buffalobillsshootingstore.com ?
Cheers nessy.

it must be an omen...........
today at work....... the machinest and i were walking across the shop yard.... i was telling him of urge to build a cannon.... he started the who/ when /how  s..
he asked me about a size to bore out a piece of rod to make the cannon......
i told him about a golf ball size ball......
then he asked me the diameter of a golf ball......
we did not walk 20 more steps....... then i,ll be dammed if a golf ball was not in the yard:eek:
i,ll be dammed where it came from...... but there it was...
it must be my sign to pursue this:D
