A professionally converted for take down (german possibly) 6.5 x 55 Swede Cavalry Carbine. I saw it on Milsurp after hours and it was in the UK. Knowing a very friendly Registered Firearms Dealer that likes cased European rifles I approached him and it was delivered.
This is what we saw online:
On the range:

Cased:

now it has been delivered:

Having had the rifle apart and checked it with a big magnifying glass they are no marks to show who did the work, cost wise it had to have been done between the wars unless the rifle was free, apart from the woodwork the bolt handle was bent and scallopped at the rear, the claw mounts fitted and the scope is excellent and you can see through the mounts to the flip up express style sights on the barrel.
The rifling is very good so I feel a variation going in soon when I start my new contract!
this will be no safe queen, it will compete in historic sporting matches and also I will use it on the Roe Bucks this summer!
I cant remember who made the scope apart from it being German, the close ups didnt work. The Dealers comments were; "Its a very nice example of European Gunsmithing and is worth at auction probably about half again on top of what I have paid if not more!

That is a very nice and very interesting piece that you have had the good fortune to purchase.
Please do be so good as to post more pictures of the firearm as you can, also, some pictures of groups at varying distances would be nice.

Thats a thing of beauty, the case alone is worth a lot of bucks(or pounds), great job of gunsmithing, I would have trouble shooting it with the excessive drop in buttstock and high mounted scope. I could however spend hours looking at it and handling it!

Having swung it around and mounted it I'd say it was set up for standing or high seat shooting only. The scope is superb for its age. All of my rifles are set up in a similar fashion and if you do a fair amount of shot gun shooting where raising the butt to the shoulder and not lowering the head to the stock, (English Sporting Style) then its easy to get used to.
I find it increadibly difficult to shoot prone due to injuries I picked up in a car wreck. I fractured my sternum and permanently dislocated my left shoulder. Doctor said I shouldnt have survived so I consider it a small price to pay, shooting from seats and trenches etc.
I can shoot prone about 20 or 30 rounds but I have to be really well and I suffer afterwards.

I would say that it is set up and regulated for Driven game such as Boar!

Tim, I believe that firearm shall go a wee way to alleviating some small measure of your misery.
Regards, James.

Ps, and if it doesn't, it bloody well should.

You know from looking at it assembled it looks right! It doesnt look out of place, the front sight wings were removed but done very well, so well in fact that unless you had seen an original apart from the scope mounts you would think it was original.
Sadly there is nothing to idicate who, where or when the conversion was done apart from trying to date the scope.
It will be used for competitions and also for stalking, not by clients but by myself when larger deer such as Fallow are in season. I know my little CZ527 in 7.62x39 will do the job, its just that this has class!
I posted it on Gunboards and the mod in the miltary weapons section got the hump. I stated its not a swedish Civilian rifle.

What a neat little rifle! Quite a find.

Thanks I'm only owning it, I didnt make it. Mind you over on Gunboards they got the royal hump over it and called me bubba. Demanded I never post it on a military board again. To$$ers!:runaway:

That is okay Tim....WE appreciate fine, interesting firearms.

Ps, a little hint, rub it in excrement and piss down the barrel, THEN they will welcome you with open arms.

I would have trouble shooting it with the excessive drop in buttstock and high mounted scope.

It looks to me that the chap in the photo does not have any part on his head touching the buttstock. If he does, its just his chin. That would make for some interesting groups.:)

Quite an innovative spin on an old rifle!

The Scope should be sold......pm me

There is no way that kit will be parted out. Ever, if I sell the kit it will be complete and possibly to the dealer. If you want exotic (by todays standards) then this gent has more scopes than you can shake a stick at.
He had a big bag of Lyman Alaskans and Unertls. I have hardly seen a tenth of his stock. He also has a nice 9mm Mannlicher Schoneaur. I so want it!:dancingbanana:

Okaaaaaay, now you are being rude Tim.........after all, we would not keep the name (and number) of such a gentleman from you..........would we ?

I'll pm his web address as he doesnt advertise. His website is under construction. I'd love to help him!

Thank you very much Tim, that was very much appreciated.
Regards, J Stuart.

That Mannlicher Schoenauer is very nice.
