Gentlemen,

Sorry I was gone so long. Lost 4 computers at the same time. I have been rebuilding the systems and should have both of my web sites up and running in a few days. Working with Vista I don't need to say more. This is for the new guys. you older guys can help me out with an email so I can rebuild my data and email files. Thanks

Here we go again. Below is a photo of the op-rod on the M1 Garand. As you can see the Piston is getting a special hardereding. What other part of the op-rod received a special hardereding and why?? Have fun with this one.

Thanks again for taking the time and effort to read this data. I hope you have learned a little of the history of the M1 Garand.

The op rod handle recess for the lug on the bolt which fits into the op rod.
This part of the op rod is what imparts the rotation of the bolt thereby un-locking the bolt from the receiver and allowing it to follow the op rod to the rear...plus it rottates the bolt back inot locked position once the bolt is fully closed. Since the stress on this part of the op rod is extreme, additional heat treatment minimized the wear at this point.
Cheers

Gentlemen,
Thanks for your comebacks. Yes, the tab on the other end of the op-rod was the area. Testing showed that before that area was treated 2700 rounds and problems. After treating over 12,000 rounds and no problem!!
Thanks again
Clancy
