I have some .454 Casull questions.

I recently have had a chance to shoot a S&W revolver chambered in .454 Casull. I can not remember what model the revolver was because I kept staring at the ammo it shoots. I want something that shoots that. What factory manufactured pistols/revolvers use this round? Is this round available over the counter or is it a wild cat that will require modification of some other cartridge?

Anybody have any interesting comments on this round?

re 454 Casull

Its actually gaining in popularity in Canada and ammo is usually available through most good shops, although it is not cheap(for factory it usually runs well over $1 per round).
As far as manufacturers, you will also find that Ruger and Taurus both have models chambered for 454 Casull. Ruger has the Super Redhawk and Taurus has the Raging Bull. You can always take a tour of the web and see exactly what is out there but keep in mind that we as Canadians are pretty limited with what we have access to in the way of handguns.
Good luck

IIRC there aren't any semiautos in that calibre...

Raging Bull is a great gun I have on in .44mag, with hot loads you won't need any more power :p

btw are you sure that was a S&W that you shot? I'm not aware of any S&W in .454...maybe it was the new SW460?

Th3 460 XVR will also chamber the 454 and 45 Colt, so it could have been that. The Super Redhawks and Raging Bulls are probaby more common up here so far though.

Honestly, i did not pay much attention to model of the revolver, it was a S&W. I have done some searching on the net for a semiautomatic in .454 Casull but the only thing that I found was the Mateba Semi-auto revolver. It has a slide like a pistol that moves back to #### the hammer and as it moves forward to its original position it turn the cylinder. Neat idea.

Here is a question for you smiths out there. Would it be at all possible to build a 1911 chambered for the .454 Casull? The brass is a lot longer so the entire frame would have to be enlarged to fit, but would it be feasible. From what I have read, the 1911 is the most modifiable system out there. Would the mechanics of the 1911 be able to handel the .454 Casull. Just think how cool a extended 1911 would look in your hands.

The answer to your last question is simply "NO" absolutely not.........

Unfortunately this is an impossible dream. The pressures are way to high for a semi-auto even if cartridge size was not a restriction.

The best for the money revolver available at this time for the 454 Casull is the Ruger Super Redhawk.

PS I'm up and on the computer right now because I'm playing Santa and the computer was calling my name as I walked by........:D

S&W? Interesting.. The only S&W I know of in that caliber is as CoyoteTech mentioned, the SW460 which will also accept the 454 and 45LC cartridges but is not sold as a 454 Casull. Maybe there are others out there:confused: but I am only aware of Ruger, Taurus and Freedom Arms in revolver only, due high pressures. Maybe somebody else knows more
Cheers:)
