I have some military pulled 62gn 5.56mm bullets...

and they still have alot of the black goo on the botton half of the rounds. I'm thinking of just leaving it there when I use them to reload, or should I make an effort to remove the stuff? What would you do? :?

That black stuff won't come off in the tumbler - well mine anyhow! Get some lacquer thinner and give them a nice overnight soak. :mrgreen:
 
I think I'll try the varsol thingy, we have a large can of it in the shop.

KEROSENE!!! is the word!! I just tried it, thinking I would have to let it soak.... not required. I put some of the bullets in an old mason jar, half filled it with kerosene, gave it a few shakes, the kerosene turned black and the bullets bright and shiney! It took only seconds to work! :mrgreen:

PS: the kerosene only removed the black gunk, but did not brighten any of the bullets that were tarnished a bit.
