This Easter a good friend and hunting buddy passed on from cancer. This season I'm starting the season alone and am missing my good friend. We often bow hunted in the Sept season with our stands in sight of each other and now and then we had the opportunity to see the other fellow draw on a deer. If one of us screwed up it made for some good natured ribbing and I think those times were more fun than the times we got a deer.

Tonight was my second night out on the stand and I've been seeing deer and was hoping for a shot. In this area we can buy a doe tag as well as a regular tag so odds are pretty decent. Sure enough a very nice doe walks in and is standing 15 feet from the bottom of the tree I'm in. I wait for what i think is the right time after she moves out a bit but she busts me and hops a few yards into the brush and stands broadside at 20 yards. I looks like I have a clear lane but the shadows were getting long. I line up and " CRACK ". I bury my arrow right into a small sapling. The doe unscathed calmly walks away. I called it a night.

I swear I could here my friend laughing at me. The old fart probably moved that tree into the path of that arrow. One thing that my friend would always say is that they'll be back later and there is a lot of season left.

I miss you old friend but would you mind giving me a little help if you can and stop pissing around:D

Chuckle chuckle, and I'm willing to bet his laughter ain't over yet.....
Comes in threes, right?
Sorry for your loss and thanks for the humor.
Helps the hurt.
Looky.

Your old friend is, indeed, watching and having a chuckle. Memories of your time together, the funny things he did or said, will keep your days out hunting well worth the while.

I lost an old friend this summer. We had been friends for well over 50 years. The last couple of years we went "hunting" whitetail together. Neither of us fired a shot, nor likely even saw one, but the time together was the important thing. I know darn well he will be chuckling at me when I miss!

Your buddy left you with the most important thing, something no one can take from you - great memories.
By the way, any laughter you hear from now on, will be those laughing at your post!
Too funny.
Hope your season is successful!

I think my old friend is still messing with me. I was out last night and the same doe came back for a visit at my stand. ( No clear shot ). However, the real laugh came after the hunt. I usually pull the pin a bit early when I'm out with the bow because of the time needed to let an animal bleed out and then track it. Usually that is about an hour before dark so I will wait around till dark to see what is coming out but not shoot.

I was leaning on the bumper of the truck and a big 5X5 walks out casually 30 yards from me stares for a while then walks back into the brush. I know that was my old buddy messing with me again.:D

Funny how the deer know the difference between a bow and a rifle. Hopefully they can't recognize a muzzle loader in three weeks.

HAHA that's a nice story ... touching it is ... I'm sure he's watching over ya on your hunts. HAPPY HUNTING! Cheers,

:)I can relate. Lost my brother just over a year ago to ALS and am sure I've heard him chuckling at me several times, sometimes to the point of turning around to look for him. Cherish the memories and hope he stops messing with you.
