Maybe a straight 4 power....Value. I would toss out $800.00 sight unseen if it was being offered up to me and I was looking for one
What model of A-Bolt, Hunter, Stainless Stalker, A-Bolt Medallion ??
Did some quick googleyes and couldnt find a 416 Remington mentioned as an offering, so maybe it is or it isnt, I do not know.
 
On my 458 win mag I put a Leupold M8 3x and love it! I think 2.5x 3x would be great
 
Straight 4x with either a post or heavy plex . A buddies .416 Rigby sure relaxes moose/400gr Partition.

Also wondering how it will feed those long sobs
Had a 7STW in an AboltII, and had to be careful when feeding from the mag box

value will depend on quality of the barrel to some extent as well as fitn'finish

Which model of A-Bolt?

Stainless Stalker stainless/black synthetic, Medallion engraved blued/walnut, Hunter blued/walnut, Stalker black synthetic/blued?

Very curious which model came in a 416 Remington magnum.

Years ago I had a stainless stalker A-Bolt in 375H&H. It was the nastiest gun I've ever owned to shoot. It was far too light for the chambering, the recoil pad was as hard as a hockey puck and the pad foot print was very much too small.

Based on that, I'd dump that 416 like a hot potato without spending another cent on it. There are far better rifles than an A-Bolt for that cartridge.

Just for reference, the bottom pad is the one off the A-Bolt 375. Center is std 700 and the top is a pad I had installed on another, friendlier 375.

What model abolt? Stainless? Must have been a 375 hh rebarelled...I don't think it was ever offered in 416 rem. How did it shoot today?

I'm thinking it was a rebarrel or rechambered. I only shot it 3 times and quite surprised About the recoil was expecting a lot more.
 
A 416 in an A-Bolt will be a miserable kicker. I love the A-bolt, but it doesn't shine with heavy kickers.

I would top it either with a 1.5-5x Leupold or a 2.5-8x Leupold. The 416 has plenty of reach to take advantage of the higher magnification.
 
I have a Leupold VX-R 2-7X33 IR on my .458 WM... it would be a good choice on the used market. New, the Leupold VX-3HD 1-5.5X20 or VX-5HD 1-5X24 IR would be good choices.
