I have seen this one and a big male working the bait all week but could not get a shot. This morning Chloe was growling at the patio door in the bedroom so I opened my eyes to see what she was looking at... low and behold there was a coyote on the bait. I grabbed the .25 and went out on the deck and the damn rest was froze down to the bench and not pointed correctly.
I was damn cold in my gotch and socks so I just sat the forestock on the back of the Caldwell and put the crosshairs on her shoulder.... bung.... I watched her drop in the scope. I cycled the bolt and watched her tail flag for about ten seconds then go still so I knew she was DRT.
I went and grabbed the range finder and ranged her carcass from inside the kitchen... 328 yards.
She was a fat ##### and deserved to die for making me get cold feet and cold balls.:) http://www.nexicom.net/~yorky/fat#####.JPG

The best part I like most is the title... even if the story is good, it wont be read if theres no catchy title line to get the readers attention. And your right... that is one fat ##### :)

Good shot Bigredd, reminds me of a shot I made a few years back at deer camp.
The guys were having lunch, when a deer appeared down at the dock. I ran outside with the '94 Winchester 30-30 in my socks in the snow, dropped a round in the top, and dropped him. 'course the distance was a spectacular... 60 feet or so... but He dropped fast!

bullet damage?
The rifle is a Browning A-Bolt Varmint Stalker and the scope is a Leupold VXIII 4.5-14 longe range. 30mm tube, side A/O, 50mm objective with the Varmint reticle. 48.1 grains of BL-C(2) behind a moly coated 85 gr nosler ballistic tip . This load is over Max load but the moly keeps the pressure down and I chrony'd it in July at 3620fps.

You know what, when I walked back to get that coyote I grabbed my camera to take a picture for the gunnutz. And when I was back there I thought I had better check the in and out for Bartell cuz he files this info away in his head like a dictionary.... so I had a good look and flipped it over for the pics.
The entrance hole was caliber size.... the shoulder was completely noodled...:)

The exit was quite small, 1 1/4 - 1 1/2", considering the fact that the bullet entered through the shoulder on the near side! I believe that the lack of expansion was the distance and speed. I have had much larger holes at 200 yards and complete fragmentation at 100 with no exit.
I think that the bullet speed was around 2700fps at that distance... maybe T/B can run the numbers in the ballistic program he has in his head....

Either you got some big ass feet or she is not very big. Fat thou, how much she weigh? My guess is 40lbs. 328 yds is an excellent shot with-out a proper rest & the twins telling ya to get back inside :D
