I know. Not another 1022 vs but I'm still undecided

I have way too many bolt rim fires. I've been hunting grouse and squirrel with a savage btvs. It's nice but it like lugging a power pole around. So now I'm looking at a light weight bush rig. I like the 1022 for all the custom builds that one can do. However, the 597 in the 16 .5 barrel at cabelas has fought my eye. $219!

Any thoughts ?
 
I have a 597 no issues any more after the 10 rd magazines have been fixed I have 3 not a single issue the 1 30 rd magazine I do not use do to it's inconsistency both are good guns it's what you want more
 
My first gun was a 10/22. It is very reliable & fun. I decided to get another semi .22LR and went & got a 597. It was a total POS compared to the 10/22. I returned it because it constantly jammed with most hollow points and the larger capacity mags were useless. The store gave me another new one as a replacement. The second one was another POS. They would not give me a refund so I sold it privately. I still have my original 10/22 after 32 years and it still never jams.

Like you I have a BTVS 22 w/ S3 10-50x scope. Great for 100+ yds, very sucky to carry around. 14.8lbs.
I have a 10/22, axiom stock and tactical solutions barrel, 16".
Gun with trs25 red dot and full mag weighes 3.75lbs! Spent just under $600taxes/shipping in!

Tactical solutions barrel is very light and very accurate. It took a few tries but it ended up placing in the rim fire 1/2 at 50 yards challenge. This is the best gopher gun I have ever owned
 
if i could keep only one of my 22's it would be my 1984 ruger 10/22
its beat to hell but its never failed me.
and its eaten a bazillion rounds!

i have 5 10/22's now and countless other 22's in my safes but nothing has ever come close to my 10/22's for being a all around good solid gun.

i have never met a person who has purchased a 10/22 and regretted it.
 
I have both and they both have their own place. I find the 597 a tiny bit more accurate but is only reliable with the ten round mags. The ruger is reliable with the larger capacity mags (makes for more fun plinking) and the customizations are endless.

Both very good choices but if the shtf i am grabbing the ruger for reliability with the high cap magazines.

I personally won't tolerate a 10/22 on the premises. I have owned two, and that was two too many!

Playing fair, they have a camp with a strong following. If you'd like to buy a rifle, and buy more stuff for said rifle, the 10/22 can't be beat. If you just want a nice, functional, accurate semi almost anything else is better. The coolest innovation with the 10/22 is it's flush fitting 10rd magazine (made completely useless by adding a hi-cap magazine). My 597's 10rd is very low profile.

I've bought n' sold dozens of .22's, and usually have a float of about a dozen functional gems. 10/22 will never grace my safe again.
 
I think the 597 is over it's growing pains now, the newer ones are pretty good at least the two I got anyway. The 16.5" HB is a real handy little gun, accurate too. I love my 10-22s also you really can't go wrong either way.
 
Well, no regrets buying the 10-22's that I did but they are just not a .22 semi for me and the 597's have been a step above both in fit and function. Both of these had Volquartsen upgrades and Boyds stocks added and are exceptional shooters.

I have no use for the large capacity mags and the factory originals work just fine.

Also have a .22 magnum in a synthetic stock - same Volquartsen upgrades and a great gun..
