Hi folks,

As the title says, I know nothing about SKS'es. I would need to know how I can tell where a SKS was manufactured (from a distance - i.e. e-mail pics and phone conversation with current owner). Obviously, this is so I can become the happy owner of a SKS. :)

Thanks!

Lou

Ask whether the barrel is chrome lined. If it is then it is either a Russian or a Chinese SKS. Then ask for a picture of the left hand side of the receiver. If it has chinese symbols (3 of them) and/or a wierd triangle mark it is Chinese. If it is chrome lined and has a star on the side then it is Russian. The non-chrome lined models are Yugoslavian. There is a Yugo model that has a grenade launcher built in to the muzzle with an extra flipup sight on the gas block. That is a M59/66AB1. If it looks like a regular SKS with no chrome lining then it is a Yugo M59. Until one of the resident SKS experts chimes in I think I have summed it up for you. Hope this helps!

Thanks Dar 701, that sounds like easy-to-ask-from-a-distance questions, much appreciated.

Hitzy, I may just give those folks a shout for price comparision... :)

Cheers!

good question, thats one thing SKS is not ...... boring . just identifying is an art form , lots of variant.

dar gave some helpful hits. when you get a chance read the STICKY, lots of info .

and failing that , post some pics and we will help you....welcome to the sks forum.

Thanks curtton. Haven't heard from the seller after he sent me his first picture, maybe he already sold it... :( Anywho the search is on. Not a frantic one, but steady I guess.
