Exerpt from a buddies email to me re his hunt up near Powassan....

Well, we baited 2 weeks ahead with tons of baits, and left more for my brother to rebait after we left. Two days after we got home a got a call from my brother who said all the bait sites had been cleaned out to the last crumb. It looked like several large bears were at the bait sites. They had scraped the ground to bare earth for a 30 foot circle around the barrels and trampled it flat. There were bite marks and scratches everywhere. After a couple more days he called again to say they had ate all of the rermainder of bait that I left with him, and a bear was seen by his barn where the spare bait was stored.e were out of bait for 5 days and the bears stopped coming around. We rebaited on the Saturday, and nothing got hit again until Wednesday morning.
I put my buddy Tim , Who's 72 years old and never bear hunted, on it. About 10 minutes before I came to collect him at dark he saw this bear come in along the top of the hill. He downed it instantly with one shot. I drug it up and over a big rock face to a logging road in the dark, covered in blood, while Brian got the truck and some equipment. I changed my boxers, loaded the bear in truck, and took off
to my brothers for a big rum. It messured 6 feet 6 inches from the top of its head to the bottom of its heels, and weighed close to 400 pounds. We learned the next morning that some guy about 3/4 of an hour from where we were shot what is believed to be a record bear with a bow from a ground blind at forty yards. It was over 700lbs and had a 12 inch wide track.
