I may need to replace the lower on my Norc CQ-A

How hard is it to replace the Norinco CQ-A lower. I was showing my gun to GARD today and after we could not get it to field strip we found a couple of problems.

The buffer retention pin has worn the hole into an oval. The rear lower retention pin's spring and pin need to be replaced and it appear the lower is slightly damaged.

If I get a stripped, non Norinco, lower how much trouble will it be to install. I can get parts from Brownell but don't want to order from them unless I know the parts will fit properly.

Any help would be appreciated.
 
That should not ever happen - is the buffer tube screwed in far enough?

If you do need to replace it, the Norinco parts will fit on any AR15 lower, provided it's not a CQ311 lower which is metric.
 
No so much wearing out as the following.
The rear takedown pins, retaining pin bent. While getting it out it broke a piece off the lower where the hole for the retaining pin meets the hole for the takedown pin.

Where the recoil buffer comes out of the stock there is a retaining button on a spring. During the recent disassembly malfunction, it seems to have made the hole it sits into an oval.

For that reason I had to pull the gun off the EE. I will not sell something that is damaged. I may have to replace the lower to correct these issues. I am getting a lower parts kit from EPPS and maybe that will fix the issue with the takedown pin retaining pin and spring but the damage to the lower itself cannot be fixed.
 
Hmm... well if you broke it, a replacement is a good idea. I wonder how you broke it though, neither spot is a high-stress area on an AR...?
 
The metal just appears to have given. Just small problem but I think the lower will need replacing at some point. To bad I can't find an inexpensive stripped lower. Everyone want to sell either a complete Norc lower for 179 or a stripped lower from other manufactures for 235 Plus.

Anyone have a spare stripped lower they want to sell for less than 175?
 
There is no way that a takedown pin retainer pin could break unless it had a hammer taken to it. That and the thing knocking a piece of the lower out indicates a very large gorilla was involved in stripping the lower.

With firearms, if something won't come out it is not adviseable to use a bigger hammer. :0

Try Armseast. They have stripped US-made lowers for $149...?
 
I don't understand why you're removing the buffer tube and rear retaining pin for maintenance. Sounds to me like you are in way over your head as these parts never need to be removed.

What exactly is a "dissasembly malfunction"?
 
I think Questars has a crazy low price on one of their stripped spikes lower, especially with their 12days of christmas sale... Couldnt you just drill out the buffer retainer and stick in an insert?
