Who can tell me about the M1D version of the Garand.Was it used
in war? How did they come up with the scope assy? Any info would
be appreciated.I own some garands but know next to nothing about
the D version.Thanks 375rum
 
i ran across a whole litany of stuff on the m1 just by typing in m1 garand in a search engine- seems the d version is really late war or post war/korea- doesn't say it was fielded, just trials- probably only the c was ww2- i was looking at one about a year back, but 1, too much money 2 has a problem with sighting over 200 yards due to the scope being offset and me being lefthanded, so i went back tothe 14

Actually, I think Clancy would be a good one to provide some info/documents on that whole thing. Methinks he probably had a wack of stuff on that.
 
M1D Garand was used from WWII thru Korea thru Vietnam and into the early '80's with various US National Guard and Special Forces units. Not that the rifles weren't capable, but the 30-06 ammo was no longer in the inventory.
 
John C. Garand was born in St. Remi, Quebec.

Imagine that, a Canadian designing the best battle rifle ever implemented according to General Patton.
