I bought some boots at Bass pro. They were the store brand. The problem is that the soles go rock hard even at mild temps. Its 11 degrees C right now and they are getting stiff. Can somebody reccomend a boot that stays soft in the cold? Just for Fall hunting I have real winter boots. Thanks in advance for your help.

I have a pair of Rocky's and I love them, Waterproof and extremely light, but warm. I have heard though that the newer Rocky boots (mine are about 6 or 7 years old) the same quality isnt there. Im not sure of this at all, just heard it from a buddy. I do know mine are the best hunting boots Ive ever owned.

WSS has/had a sale on one of the Irish Setter models.
Came to $125 with taxes plus or minus a few pennies.

So now I have an insulated pair of Tamaraks and non insulated
Bull Dogs.

The gal told me they are gauranteed for one year being water proof.
Pretty good deal I'd say.

Soles starting to get stiff at 11C? Something seems wonky there. Maybe a trip back to the retailer to talk to them?

I hunt in several different boots: Raichle hikers, Muck rubber boots, Kenetrek mountain boots. All have worked fine from -5 to 20C.

Another vote for Irish setter here..... I've used them exclusively for the last 3 seasons. My f-in-law has had the same pair for 12 years, the boots just won't quit!

They are made by redwing (same company does both) I've been wearing redwing steel toes on the job for many years. A pair usually lasts me 3ish years. That says something IMHO. Cats used to only last 8-9 months on the job.......

For most of my hunting, I use a pair of Rocky 1000. On some occasions 'chasing' Swamp Donkeys in the central interior, I have a pair of rubber bottem leather top boots made by White Pac. They look very similar to those made by LL Bean. For those dedicated timber hunting sessions, I still have my Pierre Paris caulk boots, a 'souvenir' from my logging days on the west coast of the island at Gold River. Then, set aside just for my archery hunts, a pair of Irish Setter Gore-Tex in camo pattern.

I have had them a few years so I don't think Bass pro would do much for me. The problem is when the soles go stiff the traction goes completely away. On any smooth surface I am like Bambi on Ice.

Thank you to all who replied. I think I will try some irish setters. happy hunting everyone. 7 days till deer season here in S Ontario.:D:D

I use Lowa trekking boots. I recommend either Lowa or Asolo backpacking or trekking boots. I walk 10-15 km a day over very rough Newfoundland bog and barrens with no foot problems at all.
