I need a hunting boot reccomendation

I use danner for early season then as it starts to get cold irish setter and an old pair of gortex 1000 g rocky bear claws which must be 20 years old and when it gets real cold Sorel's which look identical to those Schnees posted above. Right or wrong I plaster the leather with snow seal which seems to keep them dry and flexible

Irish Setters suck! And it's not because my Irish Setter Men's 811 Wingshooter Viper 17" Waterproof Lace-up Boots leaked like a sieve through both heal seams - a month after lacing them up for the first time.

It's because I sent several detailed letter(s) to Red Wing Shoe executives asking for an explanation as to how this could happen and if it had anything to do with their 'made in china' provenance and associated quality control (if any). No response.

Heck, even a 'fcuk you sucker' acknowledgement would have sufficed and have made me feel like somebody out there cared at least a little bit .... and, who knows, I may well have chocked the experience up to bad luck and purchased another (second time lucky) pair. Nope, nada, buttkiss, zilch, silent, mum. Okay fine, lot's of fish in the sea .... and hunting boots brands in the market.

I was gonna tout "Irish Setter" but I see eveyone has beat me to it. I'll do it anyway since I'm here. I have the 1600 Thinsulate for cold weather (pretty much a pak boot) and I have an uninsulated pair of "Irish Setter" for warm/summer/early fall weather. I've never had better boots at reasonable prices.

For a rubber boot in wet or slushy conditions I use "Muck Boots Woody Elites" until freeze-up.

Like the man said, you owe yourself good boots.:D

For rubber boots I use Nokians. They're the best rubber boot ive ever used. Incredible. ive got a summer pair and a winter pair.

+1 I have a warm weather pair (Kontios) and cold weather (Kairas with felt liners) pair too. Hands down the best rubber boots out there!

My father has a pair that are going on almost 30 years of hunting and are still going strong.

both cabelas and basspro has boots made in china that uses cheap rubber for the soles that freezes up like that. Invest in a good pair of lowa's, hanwags, asolo's, danners, or better quality boot. Will last several seasons, and extremely well made.

if you are going for a rubber/neoprene boot, make sure it is:
a) virgin
b) natural

This will ensure not only that the sole will not be stiff under cold conditions, but also that they will not crack.

This is going to sound silly but If your feet are sweating you might be over dressed. My feet sweat like a hooker in church so I have some experience with this problem. can you wear wool socks? i get my hunting socks from the same people that make the wool socks for the CF. They are a Quebec company called duray and the socks are called "army socks". lastly keep your cotton socks for the gym, they suck in cold weather.

Try this, spray your feet with anti-Perspirant powder. Put on a pair of Wigman polypropylene under socks and then your wool socks.

Once upon a time I had innersoles made of a mesh material like nylon screen door. Maybe you might try making some innersoles. Anything to give a bit of air circulation under the feet.

x2 for Duray socks. I buy them at the local flea market.

Also. I'm looking for 200g Irish Setter gunflint boots but can't find a Canadian retailer who stocks them. Anyone have a Canadian source for these.
I have a similar 800g Irish Setter, forget which model but look just like the gun flint model, great boots!

My recommendation are some Canadian Forces wet weather with Gortex boot. It's currently -4'c here and snow on the ground and my feet are warm and dry. Also, the boots only cost $69.96 +tax and shipping. They are military surplus, and used; however mine looked mint condition with the exception of a soldiers name on the inside tongue tag. Great deal for what you get. I've put them, through their paces and they hold up. Order them here: http://www.heroarmysurplus.com/canadian-military-issue-goretex-combat-boots-used-p-1234.html

I have the high Danner Ft Lewis boot. A great boot that I highly recommend. I have mine going on 20 years (I only use them for hunting and nothing else). Give them a rub of Danner boot dressing once a year before hunting season and you're
good to go. Crashed through the thin ice into the water crossing a small creek with one boot yesterday - no problem, foot still warm and dry.
when these eventually wear out I'll get another pair or I might try the tall Canadians with air bob sole. I'm not sure if they're as good a quality as the Ft Lewis though?

yes I can wear wool socks but haven't use plain wool, I have a bunch of merino wool socks which I have used in the boots and still have the same issue. The boots are 1400 gram of thinsulate and it doesn't matter if I'm standing or walking out I still get wet then very cold feet.

I was thinking of going to a Irish Setter boot with 600 or 800 gram of thinsulate to see if this issue will change.

too much insulation for walking .... so when you stop you sweat ... merino wool can be a good start as a liner (like smartwool) but you need bigger socks.
