Can someone give me a few options for different places to get a new barrel for my Savage Model 11? I am looking for a very heavy target barrel in .223, blued, and with a twist rate of at least 1 in 7", and a length of 26" - 28"

I would really like to hear from people who have purchased barrels from the companies that they suggest and are happy with them.

Thanks!

Personally I have been very happy with the Broughton barrel I purchased and had installed through Sean at North Shore (juanvaldez), but I have heard it said by MANY experienced shooters that choosing between the acknowleged leading brands (Kreiger, Broughton, Brux, True Flite, Bartlein, Shilen, Hart, and others) is more a question of availability than an advantage in quality. They all shoot good. FWIW, of the guys I know that shoot faster twist 223 most are True Flite, and one is/was a Kreiger (might now be a True Flite as well).

Like everyone else has mentioned I'd highly recommend giving Peter at Hirsch Precision a call and see what he might have on hand since he carries at least a couple of the makers I mentioned.

Thanks guys, I emailed Hirsch Precision, waiting to hear back.

I'm also interested in the True Flite barrels that FTRRookie mentioned, anyone know where a guy could get a price on one of them?

Peter does have some true-flite barrel blanks, and kreiger and bartlein, and lots of other excellent components and service.

Are you looking for something pre-threaded and chambered to just screw on yourself(with wrench/gauge), or to send it all out to a gunsmith?

I would prefer something that I can install myself... I take it a 'barrel blank' is just a piece of metal tubeing that still has to have threads added and a chamber machined out of it?

You can also give Gary a call at Big horn Sales he has Benchmark Barrels. I just finished a 280 A.I. with a benchmark barrel for myself and had a chance to test it today, it shoots awesome and these were light fire forming loads. Shot it out to 1360 yards very promising , I can not wait to start load development. I have been very happy with every Benchmark barrels performance the price has been good and delivery times have been very resonible.

Rob McLennan made a barrel for me for my what used to be a Rem 700 VSSF in 22-250. I had Casey Brauer, owner of Tactical Ordnance re-barrel and true the action for me. The barrel was stainless/target grade and cost me $300. Rob is located in the Midland ,Ontario area. This rifle has shot in the high .1"s many times(if I do my part)
