I just bought a savage 64 and I am looking for a scope to go with it. I want to keep it under $100.00. I dont need anything fancy its just for shooting paper and the odd gopher or muskrats.

Is it tapped for real scope mounts or just grooved for rimfire type scopes. I have Weaver one inch rings on both my rem 597 and and my 10/22 and use Tasco Pronghorn 3x9 full size scopes and they perform very well for me. I think I paid $49.99 + tax on sale at Crappy Tire. Been extremely pleased with value for the $.

I have relegated my chinese leupold 4.5-14x50 to savage mark ii. $90 shipped. if you are on the cheap i recommend the chinese scopes. Prices start from about $40 shipped. Can go high as $600 but that will probably be overkill for you. with a $100 budget there are lots of chinese options that in my opinion are better than what you can buy locally. Only downside is warranty coverage.

Had a Bushnell .22 scope on my Cooey for eons. Don't think you'll get one for under $100 these days.
14x50 on a .22 is kind of daft. Too much magnification and weight.
You should look into the legalities of shooting muskrats too. Considered to be fur bearers in most places not varmints.
