I bought this gun for $80. It has been sportarized and converted to a 7.62 NATO.

I think it is a NO. 1 MKIII

The band Above the trigger says Rifle, 7.62mm2A1, RFI, 1967

The numbers on the gun are all X3362

The front sightsays ICR 1559, RFI

Please Help

It's an Ishapore 2A1. That's no conversion either... those things were made in the 60's out of tougher, newer steel to handle the pressures of the 7.62Nato round.

As long as no metal has been cut or changed I'd just put a No.1 Mk.3 stock set on her and enjoy her as the piece of history she is.

i was told it was a conversion from the man i bought it from. I wan t to scope it so i have my sniper rifle and i have a m14 as my assault weapon.

Well I would get a non-gunsmith mount for it.

It will be worth more later with no holes drilled in it.

MAy not make a difference to you now, but it might later.

The no-gunsmith mounts are about $10 more but you can put them on yourself.

Good luck with your one man army :)

These rifles can be somewhat more valuable than your average Enfield as they are rare in Canada. If it can be easily converted back to full military configuration it would be a big mistake to drill and tap it for a scope. I would be interested in buying it depending on what has been done to it and what condition it is in.

The rifles may be uncommon in Canada, but they are plentiful in the US - and Apiper lists his location as Michigan.....

Restore it !
As mentioned above , these rifles ( 2A or 2A1 ) are NOT rechambered for the 7.62nato . They have been specifically made for the 7.62n.
A shipment came into the States a while ago and they've been talking alot about them on the other Lee Enfield/Milsurp forums
It's too bad we can't get deals like they get down south of the border .
You should be able to find parts here ;

Here's mine , all matching , which is a very welcome addition to my Enfield collection.

great pictures there,

but I have a question, you say all matching, including the nose cap.

I can see the nose cap has the slots for the gernade launcher but I htought it would have had the holes cut in the ears to allow more light on the front sight.

or was that just a lithgow modification

great looking rifle

That's a sweet lookin ishy Timberlord. I'd take one too if they came north. I've only one question: I thought Ishy SMLE's had square eged nose caps to save production time and $$. Did they drop this practice after the war?

My guess is that that was a part on hand when the rifle was built.
Ishapore , as we know , were very thrifty with parts and had a very extensive repair program.
I have 2 Ishy rifles , the 2A1 and a '45 No1Mklll* , both with rounded nosecaps.

My 2A1 is all matching , including the magazine which is numbered to the rifle

As to the nose caps, I have 3 Ishapore rifles.

The Musket is a 1946 conversion on a 1914 Enfield SMLE III; nose cap is rounded.

Ishapore SMLE III* dated 1943, nose cap rounded

Ishapore SMLE III* dated 1948, square nose cap.

Try an S&K mount; they are very, very solid and look good. Expensive, but worth it. They aren't the "right" mount, but they look great and are very effectual.

To restore it to issue condition, just replace the wood. Remember that Ishapore wood came factory "pre-repaired" at that time in 4 places. Bed it just like a regular SMLE and be sure to fix the crack!

Have fun!

The guy who sold it to you didn't know what he was talking about.
