I need help with rifle markings

My cousin lent me an old 30-06 and asked me if I could find out some history about it. It has almost no marking except for the winged (or firery) 0 with a "C" in it. I'm fairly new to this and don't really know what it means. the rifle in the picture isn't this rifle but it's the only thing I found on the web.

Other than that, it has several unidentifiable markings (that looks like they've been grinded or worned out) and a 4 digit number on the bolt handle.

Sorry if I don't have pictures of the gun itself but my camera craped in my hands recently. I'll have some as soon as possible
 
I am not an expert but used to have a couple of U.S. rifles years ago.
Here goes.
I think that the S A is for Springfield Armories.
The circle below is a acceptance proof mark that was referred to as the Flaming Bomb.
The 5-06 would indicate May 06.
Not sure about the A.

I could be way off though. Lets see if anyone else has some ideas.
