I bought a Beretta 76s just before the axe fell on transfers and admittedly it was a panic buy. It turned out to be more worn than I though and I am starting to doubt it even has an original spec main spring in it. The spring does not provide enough force against the slide to properly/fully lock up the action and leaves the barrel to wiggle a tiny bit. I asked Wolff Gunsprings if they make the spring I need but they have not made the recoil spring for the Beretta 70 series in 22lr pistols before. They have been very helpful but need measurements to see if there is anything they can do for me.

As I doubt my recoil spring is original spec, or so worn out, that my measurement won't be worth anything. I'm hoping a few of you can take some rough measurements of the spring in your pistols so I can get an average out of at least a small sample size.

I'll post my measurements too out of curiosity.

The measurements Wolff Gunsprings needs:

Relaxed Length
Spring Diameter
Wire Diameter
Number of Coils

Thanks for helping, everyone!

Don't know if a spring will help.
I had a brand new 76s back in 1989.
It was always loose and the barrel/weight/sight assembly wiggled when you shook the gun.
I ended up making a couple of steel plates up that connected the barrel and frame together.
Worked well and the gun was accurate, but had to be removed if you wanted to disassemble the gun for any reason.
Good luck!

I found that if I apply just the smallest amount of pressure pushing the slide forward everything locks up well and I have there no wiggle.

I had to do some tuning on my extractor slot in the barrel for mine to go into battery properly. Yeah you could overcome it by pushing forward on the slide, but in my opinion it was the extractor that was interfering with proper operation.
